So basically stuff happened and I ended up starting to apply really late, and I really honestly didn’t think it was a big deal (go me…) but I don’t even know where to begin. Everywhere that I have been looking at outside of where I am already applying (UAH and Auburn) have passed the scholarship date.
I have basically no funds to spend on college. Due to poor planning my older brother has already sucked up available funds. I am going to be walking the line with auburn, because if I get accepted it will be really close to the scholarship application date.
I am looking for a good school for CS or Engineering, that I can afford and more importantly, the scholarship application hasn’t passed.
I have a 31 ACT and a 4.0 GPA. I am also taking Cal II at the local community college this coming semester.
Thanks for any help you can give!!!(PLEASE)
I forgot to mention, preferably in the south…I live in alabama. That’s probably important
you havent’ missed the deadline for UAH, and I don’t think you’ve missed the deadline for Auburn, either. The AU deadline is the application deadline. You’ve already applied, so you’re fine.
I really am kinda edgy just because I want to have a backup. I am not really sure about either of these schools. I have had some polar opposite advice regarding UAH. I just don’t want to be stuck with only 1 option if something goes wrong.
???
What do you mean by one option? You also have Auburn.
What are your parents saying about how room and board would be paid? You mention that your family is having to pay a lot more for your older brother’s education because he didn’t plan well. It sounds like you’ve been told that there is no money left for you. That hardly seems fair. If your brother isn’t having to take out the minimum of student loans, then that should be recommended so that your family can help you as well.
Also apply to Mississippi State. If you do, retake the ACT and take the SAT because MSU will give you more money if you get a better score in the next few months.
Too bad you didn’t also apply to Alabama, you would have gotten more money than what Auburn will give you.
I just mean it is possible that I may not be able to find enough money for Auburn, that is all.
I would also be able to live at home if I went to UAH, so that is why it is looking like my best option so far.
Honestly I don’t think anyone in my family planned well enough for mine and my siblings college education (I also have a younger brother who is going to come after me). It seemed a shock to my parents how expensive just books ended up being for my brother. The only things my parents have suggested are looking for scholarships/financial aid and/or getting a job. Everyone seems to be trying to convince me I am crazy to look anywhere other than UAH.
As far as the money my brother spent, it can’t be unspent and I expect that he is going to have to take out some loans.
Sorry if I am being crazy and confusing, I just have no clue. I did realize that about Alabama, just too late. I will apply to Mississippi State, also.
Are you a NMSF?
i hope your brother is taking out a loan for this year. If not, it’s not too late. Is he going to UAH? Is he working??? If your parents expect you to work and get scholarships, hopefully they’re expecting him to do so as well!!!
Do you know what his FAFSA EFC is? Try to find out.
Getting a job will help, but really may only end up covering books, maybe course fees, and your “day to day” personal expenses. Can you get a job now? Try to find one where you can work full time in the summer. I used to live near UAH so I’m familiar with the area. If you’re near Madison, there are a number of new businesses going in over by the new Madison hospital (associated with Hsv Hospital). You probably could find a job there for summers.
According to this

You qualify at 2 University of Arkansas campuses and Troy University and their deadlines haven’t passed.
Also, some hbcu’s if you’re open to those.
Sadly I am not a NMSF.
He is actually going to calhoun, but a couple of years paying every dollar out of pocket is a lot. He is trying to find a job, and trying to get scholarships.
I am definitely going to be looking for a job that I can do over the summer.
