As I have an H-4 Visa, I was originally put in International Orientation, which doesn't really apply to me at all.

By the time I talked to the Michigan new student business people, I missed the early registration dates, and my orientation is now set for August 6-8th (which I believe is the last session)

What problems am I gonna face as a result of this (filled up classes, bad times, etc.) ?

I'm in the same situation as you (h-4 visa).

My registration is gonna be August 28th or 30th. I'm expecting filled up classes and bad times.

you should switch to my date (August 6th). A lady from new student programs said that since i've been living here for 6 years as a H-4 visa holder, she can just sign me up for regular orientation and take care of Visa issues myself. Plus international orientation doesn't apply to me at all, I'm not sure abt u tho.

August 6th isnt great but its an improvement

just call office of new student programs and ask if u want to

I would like to go earlier but since I live in NJ its not possible for me to go there for orientation and come back home. Besides, the train/air fare is pretty exepensive!

Nick, do you usually attend international orientation? After my experience at PSU, I am actually starting to believe it would be worth while if I get to meet a few dedicated students there.

lol I don't think its worth it. You're not really an international since you've been living here.

And believe me. Not all of them are dedicated. :)

haha. You are one bitter, bitter man. lol.

At least they are not the party animals we see goofing around campus and in the computer labs checking their facebook accounts with suglasses on. But yeah, it would probably be useless since most people seek others from their countries and forever after stay glued to them.

Did you know that most schreyer kids are the pennsylvania type as well? I expected more people there to be internationals or from out of state.

I knew this guy with a 1420 SAT and 3.7 GPA in my accelerated business class - an international student too. He didn't get into schreyers. Another Pennsylvania resident that I know got in with a 1390 SAT and 3.7 GPA. So yeah, I wish the honors college had more OOS kids.

And believe me, some of them are party animals too :)

But yeah, not those "Oh my gosh my boyfriend dumped me but he was so cute" types.

from experience, they are indeed very social and outgoing but at the same time very sharp, focused on academics and active in the school, which seems like a perfect combination. If some of them are party animals, it is safe to assume that there are party animals everywhere--be it UM, harvard, or princeton.

But you bitter, man; start looking at things from an optimistic light once in a while and give the students a chance instead of blindly besmirching them with your cynicism everytime.

Actually I don't mind party animals. I'm pretty sure there are lot of party hard work hard type of people there.

It's the dumb, carefree party animals that get on my tits.

Again, start looking at things from an optimistic light once in a while and give the students a chance instead of blindly besmirching them with your cynicism everytime.

--There is nothing you can do about those. As long as they are not affecting you, there is not point in resenting those people. The only thing you can do is go to somewhere else, which you already did. By this time next year, I will be going through what you are currently going through sighs

yeah I admit I've been too cynical but at the same time I did make some really good friends with who I enjoyed spending my time. I realize that every university will have its idiots but some have more than others.

know what it would be funny: if your roomate from UM was some wild party jock from a small town in pennsylvania who got in UM because of football, lol. Just kidding.

LOL you'll give me nightmares.

I'm gonna lose faith in the American education system if that happens.

Don't worry, I am sure they have a questionnaire and will put you with someone just like you. You guys will be bff (now that I used this abbreviation, I might as well make a noose and hang myself).

And nick, if an adcom/employer inquires about your experience at PSU, please lay off the "idiot", "drunken" argument bro. I would recommend something along the lines of "It wasn't competitive enough for me." After all, you did spend a whole year there and putting the place down without recognizing any positive aspect or personal lesson from it can be to your own detriment, not to mention a waste of a year--if you know what I mean.

MightyNick, I transferred out of PSU for all of the same reasons you want to. It was the best decision of my life.

I actually plan on being very honest with the recruiters. I'm gonna let them know of the pain and suffering I had during the first year of my freshman year. If possible, I'm gonna tell them never to recruit there coz everyone is just so dumb and unmotivated for a job. :)

Where did you transfer to?

lol, and to think that I ever wanted to dorm with a cantankerous guy like you, oh boy!

Btw, he went to upitt--I will see you there, Pat. You are a premed student, right?
