Late Transfer Questions

Hello College Confidential forums!

This is going to be a two part question. First off, I would like your opinions on whether it would be a bad idea to transfer to a new school after my junior year? (I would like to state that I am most likely on a five year plan because I changed majors late. Also for reference, I just completed my first semester of my sophomore year.) My reason for deciding to transfer is because I picked the school I am at right now because I planned on being a teacher but now that I changed to a science major (Geology), I would much rather go to a larger state school where I could have more resources available to me.

My second question is if anyone would have any idea on how difficult it would be to transfer to the University of Illinois: Urbana-Champaign? As of now I have a 2.1 GPA but I am retaking the courses which brought it so low and am hoping to raise it as close to a 3.0 as I can. Will that and a few extra-curricular activities (such as hall council and executive position in the school running club), and a leadership program be enough to get me in? Anything else you can recommend I do to increase my chances?

I appreciate any help I can get!

Bump? Just looking for a little insight here. It would be much appreciated.

You need a better GPA period to transfer. A 2.1 is below the minimum requirement for the entire university and probably way below what they end up accepting anyways. If there is anything you need to work on, it’s that.

As for your choice of major and where you need to go with them, I can’t give you any insight (I personally would never do those majors at all).

I understand that my GPA is the number one factor holding me back which is why I’m retaking the two courses that contributed most to it being so low. With a rebooted GPA in the range of 2.9-3.0, would it be possible to be accepted to the University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign Geology program? Just a ballpark guess if this would be good enough.

Edit: Thanks for replying. Sorry if I came off as hostile in the above post.
