So I idiotically waited until the last minute to turn in my NYU application.

I had been making last minute changes to my application all night, and decided to take my chances and edit my short answers.
Fumbling over the credit card numbers, I finally submitted my application and breathed a sigh of relief as I looked at my clock and saw 9:58 P.M.

Next came the heart attack when I arrived at the Submit Confirmation page to see...

Time and Date Submitted: 1/16/2008 12:58:00 AM (ET)

I had totally forgotten that New York was three hours ahead...
Will NYU understand that I am in California and therefore live in a time zone three hours ahead of the deadline? Or is it considered late?
Also, how do you know if it's considered late? Because I haven't received any notice saying "Your application was LATE!",
but I have received confirmations that they received my application.

If anyone could shed some light on my situation, I would really appreciate it. I've asked around, and this hasn't happened to anyone I know before.

You have received a confirmation of receipt. They know you live in California. They accept paper applications POSTMARKED January 15. You are fine.

Well, that kind of sucks. Hopefully things will work out, but if not, you have no one to blame except yourself. Not trying to be a dick, but you kind of deserve it.

AYEITSJ and others not sure if you saw these statistics that were posted on a different thread, but I think it puts the overall odds of getting accepted into somewhat of a perspective:

Projected Reg Decision (RD) Numbers for Class of '12

Total applicants = 37026 (new record)
Total early decision (ED) applicants = 2993
ED applicants accepted = 996
ED acceptance percentage = 33.3%

Total RD applicants = 34033
Freshman class of 2012 = 4200
RD acceptances required = 4200-996=3204

At this point the University must decide how many of the 34033 to accept to achieve 3204 who wish to attend. This is the "yield". Over the past 6 years, the yield averaged ~37%. Last year the yield was 38.3%.

Assuming 38% yield, the University must accept 8431 from the pool of 34033 to achieve 3204 who decide to attend.

At 38% the RD acceptance percentage will be 24.8%.
At 35% the RD acceptance percentage will be 26.9%.
