What do the laundry machines at DeNeve take - quarters, Bruin card, dollars? If they take quarters, are they reliable or do they break all the time? I asked about the Bruin card because I heard that the machines at CalPoly take the CalPoly card rather than change. It seems like a good idea.

From another thread, I think the answer was quarters. Only the new buildings (Summit, Vista, Terrace) used BruinCard EasyPay.

I don't think they break down often. On the rare occasions that they do, there's always another machine if its not in use already.

it actually depends on which building of De Neve you're in... In Acacia and Birch you have to use quarters but in Cedar, Dogwood, Evergreen and Fern you can have the option of using your Bruincard to pay.

Great - thanks for the quick response!

fern?? heh..that made me smile :p

yay for not having to carry/make change

I spelled it wrong, didn't I? figures...

its fir heh

Interesting info, ckings.

Forget all the trees. It's just A-F! :)

During the housing tour at the Honor's Program event, I remembered the student guide says all dorms use the bruin card, no need to save on quarters. I guess he or she was wrong, now I have to save the qrters.

Well, I might be wrong in saying that De Neve uses quarters, since I lived in De Neve (Birch) two years ago, and a lot of internal renovations can take place during that period. Your student guide may be correct, in case the On-Campus Housing Office upgraded all the dorm laundry rooms to accomodate wall-mounted Bruin Card readers over the summer.

I think what it is, is that in the buildings that have a set of washer and dryers on each floor, you have to pay quarters. Whereas in the buildings that have a large laundry room on the bottom floor, you can use your Bruin Card. IMO, card readers should be installed on all of the machines and then we wouldn't need to worry about laundry quarters.

how much will it cost to wash and dry clothes in a laundromat at UCLA?

$1.00 for a standard wash (35 min).
$1.25 for superwash (40min)

$0.75 for 69 minutes of drying.

what about at dykstra? and do you know what detergent type we should bring- liquid or the solid bar things or what? thanks you guys!

theres a superwash option?

detergent is just your personal preference whether you bring the powder or liquid kind. bleach, colorsafe bleach, fabric softner, oxiclean, whatever is all personal preference too. it works the same and will take anything your washer does at home, except its front loading instead of top loading. (res hall coin operated ones are top loading though).

the BruinCard EasyPay is convenient, but its a mess when the scanner breaks. it happened once last year in Vista, and it was broken for about a week i think. the entire laundry room was out of service because no one could pay for a wash/dry.

what the heck is a superwash option?

so people usually spend around 7 bucks a month for wash/dry? (1 load of colors/1 load of white every 2 weeks)

superwash=longer wash

what a waste of a quarter...

great thread...will read again
