<p>I am thinking about doing the laundry service plan, do current students have any thoughts about that? Also if I didnt do it and I left my load unattended is laundry theft common? I would just like some opinions on doing the service or doing it yourself?</p>
<p>just do it yourself. no one's going to steal your stuff but if you leave it in a machine when all the others are busy being used, expect someone to take it out and put it wherever they please to teach you a lesson.</p>
<p>Once I was waiting in the lobby of Branscomb when D lived there and I saw I don't know how many folks coming by with their freshly laundered clothes on a Friday afternoon. Now that the freshmen will be housed in Commons will there be laundry drop off and pick up there as well as at Branscomb?</p>
<p>Laundry theft is not common but it has happened to some of my friends so I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Don't use the service plan offered by the school. It's way overpriced and I wouldn't take the risk of clothing damage and it getting lost.</p>
<p>I third the motion to not use Commodore laundry -- severely overpriced, but definitely has a selling point for some of my higher-end peers at VU that would never fathom doing their own laundry. I have heard stories of people losing clothing or having clothes damaged through that service as well. In addition, the pickup and dropoff is not always convenient for the students as they plan their times by dorm not on individual students.</p>
<p>best bet? pay $1 for a wash and a $1 for a dry and do it the good 'ol conventional way; that way when you get out of college, you actually know how to do your own laundry.</p>
<p>laundry theft? id say thats pretty rare, but as someone else alluded to, you can't keep your clothes in the wash or dryer for extended periods of time. if resources are low and it is prime time for laundry (ie sunday afternoon/night), you can fully expect your clothes to be removed from the W/D you left them in, and instead, put ether on one of the counters, or if no space, on the ground. I speak from experience, it happened to me once, and i vowed it would never happen again.</p>
<p>Haha. Its really not that hard to do your own laundry. Most dorms (except the ones in Kissam Quad) have machines available.</p>

<p>There is, but you pay for it. Now, at Davidson ... the on campus laundry service is free (well, I suppose it's rolled into tuition)!</p>
<p>Tips for those who would like to do their own laundry at Vandy:</p>
<p>1) Always have some quarters in your pockets, even if you will be paying with your commodore card (the card readers have issues sometimes)
2) Use cold water detergent and press the "bright colors" button to use cold water (this way you can throw in your white and colors at the same time, which can free up machines at peak hours)
3) No one is ever in the laundry room before 11am on Sunday (good time to get it done if you happen to be awake)
4) WATCH OUT FOR BROKEN MACHINES!! (While you probably won't encounter broken machines too frequently, it is a rather unpleasant experience having to wring out your clothes after finding them submerged in a washer that will neither drain nor spin)</p>

<p>lol, good point, I know, this thread is pointless now for me at least, I broke out of my "rich kid bubble" and realized that doing your own laundry would be kinda fun and its time for me to learn how to do it on my own.</p>

<p>You can find your detergent in a variety of amazing locations such as Munchie Marts, pharmacy stores such as CVS and Rite Aid, or even grocery stores!</p>

<p>people never steal your clothes, but they take your detergent, and very frequently take your clothes out the second they're done in the dryer/washer</p>
<p>yeah buy detergent elsewhere NOT in the munchie mart. they will charge you like $10 for like 3 loads of detergent! it is pure convenience, inevitably you will buy some stuff in the munchie mart but let it be last-minute snacks, quick lunches, water, coffee, you know, essential stuff that you need in the middle of the night that you won't feel ridiculously over-charged for. if u buy things like detergent and other groceries in there, you will certainly be paying 4-5x the amount a normal grocery store would charge.</p>
<p>You Freshman are hilarious. Learn how to do your own laundry. It builds character.</p>
