Is law school out of the question for someone who has an F and a W on their transcript? The first semester of college, my brain wasn't really all there: I got an F and a W. I ended up re-taking the class I got an F in, and the grade was replaced with a B so it's not factored into my GPA. But it is still there, along with the W. I'm somewhat interested in law school but something tells me that a W and an F won't look too good. Thanks

Of course law school is a possibility for someone with an F and a W on his transcript. It's a possibility for someone with eight of them, especially if they've been replaced, as yours has. Whether a particular law school is still a possibility is another question altogether and will probably depend on your explanation and on the rest of your grades/scores. Different schools will react differently. Know that you'll have to work just that much harder to improve your grades and to strengthen the rest of your application, but I think it's reasonably bounce-back-from-able, provided that other factors are in line with/strong for the schools in which you're interested.

It is factored into your GPA - LSAC will count the F.

By the time I apply (if I do) my GPA will be pretty good, but if that F is really factored in, then I'm almost inclined to say there is no point..

If you want a T14 you need 3.5 168+. If you want a Tier 4 you could get in with a 2.5 and 140...just depends on where u wanna go

I'd love to go to a T14. My GPA is a 3.56, but I am anticipating 3.67 - 3.7 after this semester and it should only improve. I recently started minimizing the B's I get. But this isn't counting the F that was replaced. Would a significant explanation in the application really help? I indeed have one..

From what I've heard at lawschooldiscussion.org (and honestly, you should go there for law gossip, not here) the reasoning behind your F will not matter because it's only one class. If you had a bad year and could explain that it would be one thing, but not just one class. Look at it this way man, if you can pull a 3.5 and pull a 169 on the LSAT you are more than likely to get into a 7-14 law school. Seriously, keep you GPA>3.5 and just study for the LSAT

thanks a lot, I'll definitely keep that in mind

If you're black/mexican/indian you can push that badboy to like 3.5 and 165 and still get T14...

Even though I would hate getting into a school solely on affirmative action, that definitely helps too, haha
