Maybe he will discover a new place to ‘take the place’ of Chick-Fil-A while in Appleton if he applies/gets in/decides to attend. All the examples you give of the school contacting him, the fee waiver for applying, the personal invite to visit…sound… so…Lawrence. Good luck with it all.

This is a question for anyone who travels to Lawrence from the NY area: What’s the best airline/route to get there? We flew from LGA through Chicago when we visited, but there are many other options (White Plains is very convenient for us – but sometimes White Plains closes due to fog while other airports remain open). I’m wondering if Detroit is a more manageable airport or if going to Green Bay is a good idea.

Detroit has a direct flight to the Outagamie airport in Appleton, Delta I think, have not actually taken it myself.

How funny- now that my daughter is at Lawrence I rarely go on CC but when I do I stumble upon something I can relate to perfectly! We must be neighbors because we also like to fly out of White Plains (or Newburgh). You can definately fly to Detroit (on Delta) and from there, go on to Appleton (ATW). The airport is only about ten minutes from the campus. You can also look into flying to Minneapolis and go from there to Appleton. We have done both and it has worked out well. The cheapest option is to fly to Chicago but we have tried to avoid O’Hare. At the end of the holiday break last week, many of the airports had delays and cancellations. I can’t tell you how blown away I was over the help that many Lawrence families offered to students stranded at all these airports. It is a really special community of people.

I’ve looked at ticket prices from NY to Appleton and can’t find any for under $550 or $600. Does it ever get better than this?

Ok, for traveling non-peak, non-holiday times I see $356. But vacation times could be very pricey.

The best price is always Chicago/O’Hare or the other Chicago airport (Midway). At some point it may work out to arrange a ride share with a fellow student from Chicago to Appleton ( 2 hrs). Many Lawrence students live in that area. But if you want to go right to Appleton, you bite the bullet. It is a very easy little airport. The other thing to keep in mind is that Lawrence is on a trimester schedule so they are come home right before Thanksgiving and go back in early January (so you get both holidays). Our daughter is a freshman and is flying home for Spring Break in March but we’d imagine that in years to come she may not. The year ends mid-June and I will probably drive out there then. One of the things I liked about Lawrence was that there were many options for travel- it is a city and not in the middle of nowhere- and the trimester schedule.

Thanks. I like the bit about pay-one-price Thanksgiving/Christmas travel.
