SPS may have a swim team, but if it does it is only a year or two old. BrooklynGuy: I have furnished enough info. in my prior posts for any capable individual willing to do the work to verify everything which I have posted. Unfortunately, very few are willing to do the work so they just rely on defensive emotionalism & backyard gossip. (BrooklynGuy wrote that he need say no more in a public forum--he wants to remain anonymous on an anonymous website, yet criticizes others for wanting & expecting the same courtesy. A note: Nobody cares who you are.) Another interesting note: If you search enough websites, I have looked at over 100, you will find that a couple of prep schools release too much info. including GPA, standardized test scores, colleges offering admission & where the student matriculated, among other info. This is valuable info., however, for learning about college placements.

nope - definitely no swim team nor water polo.
I would guess, brooklynguy, that your student's rejection by SPS could be due to the school thinking your child would be a better fit for a school with a swim team.

The students love swimming at the docks, though, weather permitting. :)

my son is accepted to Deerfield-- ICY please comment

Deerfield Academy is one of my favorite schools which, in the year 2001 had the single best college placement of all 22 boarding schools in my study. Deerfield Academy's packet on college placement info. is the best in that it included full matriculation date for six or seven years. My study only goes back to 2002, utilizing the college placement for the graduating classes of 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007.Deerfield Academy finished at third in the study behind St. Paul's School & Phillips Academy at Andover. Until this year, Deerfield Academy had an outstanding early decision, or EA, placement record at the Univ. of Pennsylvania. Things changed this year re: ED/EA as the head of admissions for UPenn left abruptly. Deerfield Academy was very cooperative with my study after some initial hesitation, but after I furnished them with the methodology, they gave me too much info. I have also interviewed about 60 families--the parents--of what were then current Deerfield Academy students; the praise for Deerfield Academy was overwhelming despite dealing with some highly publicized unpleasantries from the past. I was familiar with the prior head of school who left a few years ago, although the new head of school at Deerfield Academy is doing wonderful work according to many associated with the school. Hope that is of help to you!

icy - have you talked to families/students of most schools in your study? Aside from the college placement stats, which schools get the most uniformly positive responses from families?

For a different opinion - St George's would be my pick, but I'm too old to attend. We spent a day at their open house. I was impressed with everything from their organization to the warmth ofthe school. We met lots of students, parents, teachers and were impressed. The academics and college placement were wonderful.
