Lawrenceville Student Here To Answer Any Questions

Hey guys I am a current student at the Lawrenceville School and I am here to answer any questions.

Do you like the house system? How intense are the academics? Do you think there is good academic support? Do you have an active chess club/team? Do you get enough sleep most nights? Thank you!

Was Lawrenceville your first choice and if so, why? If not, what was your first choice and why?

What three things have surprised you about your time at Lawrenceville?

Why do they get sooooo many kids into Ivies? Is it misrepresented due to Princeton faculty?

You have a sizable day population; how does that impact you?

Are there students there interested in Computer Science? How is the Harkness Method – is there a lot of pressure to speak – and how do shy kids do with that system?

Thanks!

What kind of person at Lawrenceville gets to attend an Ivy? By that, I mean: what kinds of sets of skills and academic behaviors do Ivy-League accepted Lawrencetians display? I am a student who is transferring into Lawrenceville for the third form. Do you have any advice so that I may start the year in the best way I can?

First off, congrats and welcome to the Lville community! I’m a rising V former (senior) that came in as a new junior. While I wasn’t at Lawrenceville for the third form, I know from friends that it’s pretty tough. Handling 6 classes without any frees can be pretty difficult at times, so you should probably be emotionally prepared for that. Since III form year is when everyone is put into the house system, you’ll immediately be surrounded by an awesome family. In my house, we had like four new III formers, and all of them are really happy and immediately fit right in. I’m sure you’ll do just fine.

To answer your first question: well, I wish I knew the answer myself. Lawrenceville’s matriculation statistics are very impressive, and I’m honestly not surprised, seeing how amazing and outstanding my peers are. In particular, I feel that colleges recognize the rigor of Lawrenceville, so performing well academically at Lville definitely helps. Furthermore, Lawrenceville provides students with the opportunity to stand out, whether it’s through leadership, arts, community service, etc.

Good luck!

@Lawrentian17 Right. However, I just got taken off the waitlist for Phillips Exeter Academy. And I was admitted by the decision of Exeter Admissions. So… I am now going into Exeter as an incoming 10th grader. Do you know anyone who has entered Exeter in the same way? If so, do you know what he/she said about handling work at Exeter?

@dANIEL628456 sad to hear that you won’t be joining us next year, but congrats nonetheless. Personally, I don’t know of anyone at Exeter, but I’ve heard that academics are very, very, very tough there. Good luck!
