I’ve taken a look at Pitt’s club and intramural sports, and am interested in either women’s water polo or lacrosse…problem being that I have never played either sport. I’m not sure how competitive these teams are or whether they would take beginners?
I’m not attending Pitt until spring, so I have time to get in better shape, but I haven’t seen any other sports I could do…I did track in hs but I was a sprinter and all they have is XC, which I would be awful at.
Thanks!
Pitt’s women’s club lax team won the Div 1 women’s club national championship in 2014, is a regular in the national tournament, and has won their conference three years in a row, so I’m thinking they are very competitive. That doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t take beginners, but their website suggests their looking for people that already have lax experience.
Water Polo finished second at the Mid-Atlantic championship, and was nationally ranked part of this past year, so they’re competitive but not quite at the same level as lax and I don’t get the impression from their website that they’re as concerned with experienced water polo players, because lets face it, there also aren’t nearly as many of those, especially on the east coast.
Rowing is probably always looking for people. You might also consider field hockey.
Google these teams and I think you’ll get a better feel for them. Also go to the activities fair at the beginning of your freshman year. Lots of clubs have tables and you can talk to the teams and see what what they are looking for.
