I was just wondering how much 8th grade impacts college's look on my GPA. My HS GPA is 97 but I had a 94 average in 8th grade courses that counted as HS level courses.

94 is bad? you need help

hmm, it might hurt you a lot in college admissions possibly. because after all it IS hs classes even though you took it in 8th grade and a 94 is a terrible grade.

8th grade courses almost certainly will not be on your transcript.

Even if they are, colleges will not care about them.

Even if they did, 94 is an incredible average for an eighth grader taking high school courses.

Even if it wasn’t, you’re kinda an ass for complaining about “only” getting a 94 average anyway.

94? Psh, that’s it, the world’s ending for you. Better start lookin’ at them Community Colleges.

I’m actually quite pleased with a 94 seeing as those courses were entirely optional for me. I’m just saying that I was a little lazy and wasn’t really thinking ahead of time about colleges.

amarkov - they will be on my transcript, but I agree with you that colleges won’t care about them.

DMOC, biggie_smalls was kidding.

Also, if you already knew that colleges don’t care about them, why did you ask this question in the first place…?

But to clear things up, no, it doesn’t matter. And stop freaking out about a 94, because that’s a perfectly fine GPA or whatever to have.

Even if you took highschool classes, your results from 8th grade do not get sent to colleges in any form.

Hahaha, sorry if I came off as too serious. I was just telling you to lighten up and not be so worried. And a 94 is pretty damn fine for an 8th grader. Harvard’s a must for an application when it’s time for you to apply.

fuzzyfirebunny - don’t worry, I know he was. I get teased by NuclearPakistan1 all the time about community college. Also I’m pretty fluent in online humor, etc.

tmiles - You’re sure? 8th grade isn’t sent to colleges? So my overall HS GPA that colleges see would not include 8th grade in that average.

You didn’t get the memo? Who you are in 8th grade essentially defines the rest of your life.

the truth: no college considers 8th grade. some(like Princeton and Michigan) don’t even consider 9th grade.

That’s not true for everyone. Every college that looks at my transcript (which will be all of them) will see my B in Geometry AA.

But if I’m correct, they all ignore it.

Have you seen your transcript? Most of the time, probably more than 95% of the time, only grades from 9-12 are on there, but in my case, and possibly in yours, some or all grades from 8th grade may be on there, and your school may include them in your GPA. Just ask your counselor. On school-specific things, she or he is pretty much guaranteed to have better answers than people who have no ideas about the inner workings of your high school.

My counselor doesn’t know what a grade on 0-100 scale correlates to in a 1-4 GPA scale. But I’ll ask.

In case you are ■■■■■■■■, which I think you are, I give you props for being a good ■■■■■.

In case you aren’t ■■■■■■■■, I got Bs and Cs in middle school and ended up being the valedictorian of my high school. middle school doesn’t matter for anything

Actually, it averages out with your 6-7th grade GPA. Some schools call it a “reinforced” GPA and it supplements the high school GPA. With the growing competitiveness of top colleges, some admissions departments are looking to differentiate candidates who were clearly capable of pulling their weight early on.

I find it highly unlikely that any college would ever, ever, EVER do that. What in the world could you possibly determine from grades of kids who are just learning that maybe the opposite gender doesn’t have cooties?

In case you are ■■■■■■■■, which I think you are, I give you props for being a good ■■■■■.

In case you aren’t ■■■■■■■■, I got Bs and Cs in middle school and ended up being the valedictorian of my high school. middle school doesn’t matter for anything

I am not ■■■■■■■■.

Well, looks like many of you guys were wrong. I got my overall GPA report and it does include 8th grade. Oh well, I’ll live with it.

My god, this thread epitomizes all that which is wrong with this website.

D’s high school also included 8th grade courses which were ‘advanced’ HS courses (foreign language, algebra 1, and keyboarding). These stayed in her overall HS GPA, and determined class rank senior year.

So, while it might seem wildly paranoid to ask the OP’s question, she is right that at some schools, if 8th grade is done in the same building, the grades can follow you until graduation.
