Lbw 2012

So the class of 2013 is looking for summer programs, and I haven't seen any talk about Wharton's Leadership in the Business World summer program yet! It's an amazing experience that all of you should consider, especially if you're interested in business. I have and I absolutely LOVED it. If you have any questions regarding either the program or your chances, I'd be more than happy to help :-)

Hi I am planning to apply to LBW this summer but I have not taken the SAT or ACT yet. I have a 5 on AP World History and a 750 on the SAT Subject test that I can submit, but idk if that helps or not… I know that standardized test scores aren’t technically required, but did people get in without them last year? Also, do you know what the average SAT/ ACT scores were for those admitted? Thanks!

I am also planning on attending. I am very nervous as to the competitiveness of it. Not sure what my chances are but I really want to go. If i have solid grades and E.C’s but no SAT score yet will my chances be lower?

Another alum here. I’ll try to check in to answer questions, though I imagine it will be infrequently.

Regarding some comments on the LBW 2011 thread. Please do not attend this institute just to get into Penn or make friends with the professors. Yes, many of my friends from LBW were admitted to Penn. But also, many were not. And I’m certain that amongst those who were admitted, it wasn’t LBW that got them in. It’s about spending an awesome month with awesome people learning about business, not just getting something to slap onto your resume.

I don’t believe that any sort of test score data is available. And it’s not like we sat together at camp sharing SAT scores, so I really don’t know about that. Just try to present yourself as best you can. I heard it rumored that the acceptance rate last year was 30%ish, though that’s unverified.

Well, I posted in the 2011 thread, so I guess we’re moving here now.

“Hi everyone! I’m interested in applying to LBW 2012, and I was wondering how much weight your ECs hold. After looking through some threads, it seems like the only part of the application where you can let your ECs shine is in the essay, which is pretty limited. I didn’t do too well on my PSAT (219) and I haven’t taken my SAT yet, but my grades, SAT IIs, and AP tests are all pretty good.”

Basically, is there any way you can put your ECs in the application (attach a resume/supplement, etc?)

Thanks! :)

Hi Guys!

I’m also applying this year for LBW. Best of luck to you all! I was just wondering, for the “Activity” part of the form, around how many words are they looking for? Like should I write a solid paragraph, or bullet points? I have a lot to say about my activities but I don’t want to write more than they are willing to read. Thanks! :)

izzallgud, I think it’d be best to put it in a paragraph and I believe there’s a character limit of around 1000 characters.

quickster94, I would absolutely love to attend a camp like LBW. I am extremely passionate about business and spend hours a day researching and blogging about the stock market. My only problem is the cost of the camp and the opportunity cost. The cost is a little intimidating and would not want to burden my parents although they would be happy to pay it. Additionally I feel I could either land an internship for a month at no cost and gain a similar amount of knowledge, which might even be more impressive from a app point of view. For this reason the deciding factor in me attending the camp would be a boost to my admissions.

As I remember it, there were four extracurricular blanks? What I did personally was devote three to my three main extracurriculars with detailed explanations and awards (in bullets). Then I think I used the last one as a “catch-all” for brief descriptions for my additional activities. I recall coming close to the character limit in all of these responses. Of course I have no idea if I was accepted in spite of or because of this format. More likely answer is that the formatting of your responses doesn’t matter all that much as long as you communicate a passion and excellence in your activities.

Did your friends apply ED?

How do we submit SAT Subject Tests and AP scores? Do they have to be official?

to DrGoogle: yes, they were accepted ED. (otherwise, how would they already have been admitted?)
to fugurebizmajor: I think that SAT scores had to be official? Directions should be somewhere around the application I think. Sorry, my memory is a little hazy here.

If you’re accepted, does anyone know how long you have to accept or decline to go?

Just dug up my email from last year. Decision notification was on 4/15, full payment was due postmarked by 4/22. So basically, not very much time…

applying this year! i am VERY nervous.

anybody else scared? this is my dream. i’ve known about this program for years and i’m already anxious about the results! haha havent even started the app yet bc of all the work i have but yeah!

Hey guys, I went to LBW last summer and it was by far the best month of my life. If any of you have questions about the application process or the experience itself, I can definitely try to answer them!

Hi an international student who’s dying to get in to LBW 2012
i was just wondering how many internationals get accepted each yr? or last yr?

Last year, there were about 20 international students out of 60 at East. I’m not really sure about West, but there were definitely a lot of internationals in both programs.

Were you guys able to keep the word count for the main essay under 300 words? The box on the application allows more, but the essay itself asks for 300…
