LBW Wharton 2017!

Hey guys! It’s almost the deadline for LBW, but no one has started the thread yet. Let’s discuss about your apps here!
What PSAT/SAT score do you guys have? I don’t know if i should submit it or not.

U should definitely upload it if the score looks good.

Man I’m so nervous

PSAT 1380

I am national level athlete, captain of my state team and national level gold medalist. ( I have also won several state level medals and I currently hold the district and regional records)

For my awards I mentioned that I am sponsored by a company called JSW under their Sports Excellence Programme which annually pays me around $4000 to cover my training/travel expenses

My work experience: I am a part time coach at my pistol club, I help with the marketing (fb+Instagram) page of the club etc. So lots of paid work!

Recommendations by my college counselor and pistol coach

@FelixAlessandro you really shouldn’t be nervous bro. There is no way they are rejecting an applicant like you. Chill out ! Moreover, this is a meaningless summer school so don’t fret too much.

@FelixAlessandro CALM DOWN YOUR IN FOR SURE.

Tks guys. I am nervous b/c there are so many kids in our school applying to LBW this year, a lot more than last year according to our counselor, so the applicant pool could be a lot larger I guess. There’s nothing to do now except for waiting. Hoping for the good news!

@IntelMaster what are your stats?

Applying from Singapore (but resident of Texas)

Extra Curriculars: Golf (part of school team), State Finalist in both Quiz Bowl and DECA, Mock Trial Team Member, Business Club Officer, Stock Trading

Standardized Testing: ACT 35/36

Work Experience: Intern at Tradefix, an online paper trading company

GPA: 3.9 Enrolled in 4 AP’s

Applying from New York:

36 ACT, 1500 PSAT, 800 SAT Math II
GPA: 3.95 unweighted, 8 APs by the end of junior year (3 taken sophomore year, AP Calc BC, Stat, and European History, all 5s)

So I’m basically a chess geek and I run a nonprofit off of it, and base all of my outside of school and volunteer work on it (plus some badminton and tennis mixed in for good measure).

Extracurriculars: Co-Founder of my nonprofit organization, CHESSanity (raised about $20k already, we donate chess sets to underprivileged schools around our community and coach these kids for free), Co-Captain of my school varsity badminton team, and President of my school’s chess club. I do A LOT of marketing stuff for each of these. My school’s chess club’s daily attendance was about 3 people until I started doing some cool mini-tournaments with the incentive of free food then people began showing up

Awards/Honors: USCF National Master (one of fewer than 40 for age 16-17 in America), Cover of the Chess Life Magazine May 2016 (Youngest team ever to win largest chess tournament in America), 2015 County Champion for Badminton and Team MVP.

I’m so nervous as well. What did you guys write your essays about?

WHAT THE F%$# ?! I thought this was a normal summer course. Why are people with 34+ ACT and 1500+ SAT applying ? And how are you’ll still nervous? @darkphantom22 dont be nervous bro. There is no way they’ll reject you.

I wrote my essay about 2015 Pistol National Championships when I captained the state team. There was a problem in technique we were all facing and I thought of a solution to it. We ended up winning gold that year.

My DD with a 36 ACT, 800 SAT math level 2, 4.0 UW Did not get in last year. I think the essay matters and you need something business related on your resume. Good luck to all those applying this year.

Guys, have you received a confirmation email from JKCP? After which you have submiitted all your stuff.

Do I have a chance? I centered my EC’s and essay around business related topics like Finance and the Stock Market and also mentioned the leadership roles I have held.

Hi guys,
Reading the thread has probably made me more nervous than before :stuck_out_tongue: Good luck to everyone, you all seem like strong candidates!

@FelixAlessandro, I received mine a few days after I submitted.

@FelixAlessandro I haven’t received one

I was pretty that I wouldn’t attend even if I got in because it costs an insane amount. But now that I know that I’ll be surrounded by such smart students, I’ll probably attend if I get in!

@NinjaShwe haha same. I was pretty confident before 8-|

I’ve heard from former alumni the test scores don’t matter that much though. They’re presumably used as a tiebreaker if two applicants are really close I guess.

I wrote my essay about stuff with my nonprofit and a generic optional one about meeting new people etc.

I still haven’t received confirmation, but that’s cuz I submitted it two days ago.

wait im so late i just noticed this thread LOOOL… anyway does anyone want to chance me?

Applying from california: (i apologize beforehand for crummy punctuation, grammar, and abbreviations)

1480 PSAT
GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 4.25 weighted, 7 APs by the end of junior year (bio, world, english, calc BC, chem, psych, spanish)

Extracurriculars: CEO of my custom apparel business - we design/take designs for sweatshirts, tshirts, and other personalized products and source from a manufacturer in central california, customers include local businesses, school clubs, and nonprofits, $11k gross revenue since starting and i donate money to school programs and nonprofits; DECA-FBLA chapter officer (school combines business CTSOs) founding officer of the FBLA chapter, and officer of DECA (one of the best chapters in the state), where I have raised over $7000 and advocated for DECA on various levels - state office nominee for upcoming election in march; community organizer for local nonprofit that plans talent shows, cookie sales, fundraisers, and seminars and has raised over 20k for donations to rural china, uganda, or other nonprofit partners

Awards/Honors: DECA international/state finalist/champion, student-based enterprise gold certification, county/state spelling bee qualifier (missed nationals by one word ): )

the essays are the reason i’m going to get rejected LOOOL. for the problem one i talked about the creation of my business in response to a problem - but i talked more about the beginning and ending status more than the process… rip. also the why LBW was EXTREMELY GENERIC and really the weakest part of my essay.

my entire app was like whatever… do any of you know other programs i can still apply to??

Hello! I am from the other LBW thread.( http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/1957822-leadership-in-the-business-world-2017-p1.html ). This one is far more active so I’ll consider this one to be the main one.

Did all of you write the optional essay? I sure did.
