LEAD Summer Business Institute

I think they are going by school, but not sure. Ross was his 1st pick.

CONGRATS TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO GOT IN! (especially philly boy, i am a part of lead '07)

northwestern is definitely the best one...i'm absolutely not bias (lol j.k.)

if anyone has any questions about LEAD feel free to PM me.

and for anyone who hasn't heard anything, don't worry. last year i seriously called ayana like 10 times...i'm pretty sure she grew annoyed but i was so anxious.

last year, according to lead organizers they do try to spread students evenly geographically. i had northwestern and wharton as my number one choses and was told i could not go to the wharton one because i lived in philly. i don't know if they are doing the same thing this year.

i'm happy w/ my lead experience and met people i plan on talking to a long time. (in fact, one of my friends from wisconsin that i met at my lead is coming to visit me today! lol that's what made me go on this board today)

Hey everyone..congrats to those who have gotten in so far (especially to the Wharton LEADers!!)..Okay I'm a little biased cuz I did LEAD Wharton '07. But like restmychemistry stated if you guys have any questions at all..PM or facebook me cuz I know last year at this time a lot of us had sooooooo many questions and there was noone on CC to help us out.

To people who have been asking there are approximately 30 students at each LEAD SBI..give or take a few. There's also nothing to fret about if you haven't received your notification yet..LEAD is notoriously slow for sending them out.

Um, also as more people get accepted create your individual LEAD SBI facebook groups so you can talk about stuff pertaining to your SBI and then join the LEAD Program in Business Alumni, Students, & Friends Group Login | Facebook because through that you can meet Alumni who've done the program and who go to your potential college and it's been very helpful for me.

Finally..through LEAD you meet some of your best friends so take advantage of the opportunity. Someone I met at LEAD spent spring break with me, several of them i've seen when they came to my city, and a lot of other people I'm planning to meet up with at different college admit weekends.

So as you can see..LEAD LOVE lasts forever :)

OK, so everyone is saying that LEAD is pretty slow at sending out notifications, but last year, were this many people notified on the date that LEAD scheduled? in other words, LEAD seems to notified a ton of people this year, so, in the past years when they were considered slow, were this many people already notified?

I can't wait; in a little over 12 hours, i can call lead and get my formal rejection!

semi-finalist. is that an euphenism for rejected? do they tell anybody that they're flat out rejected?

Well at least I didn't get rejected! I got waitlisted i guess (as they call it, a "semifinalist"). I knew this was coming and when i called, the person wasn't very helpful.

My dilemma is that I got into another summer program that needs to know if I am attending. I don't know what I should do, because I think my chances at LEAD are hovering around 0%, but I would much rather do LEAD if possible. Any suggestions?

yeah semi-finalist. yeah i would like to know if it is a euphemism for rejected.. has anyone been rejected??

also interruptingcow and jkterrapin: what are your ethnicities if you dont mind me asking

semifinalist. blerg.

i'm a white dude, but i'm low-income (i told them that when asking for an app fee waiver), i figured that would of given me some kind of edge since its geared towards minorities. i was pretty bummed at first, i was looking forward to going to a yankees game during yankee stadium's last year or something while i was at wharton (wharton sbi does that, right?). well the antidepressants helped out my lament, as did knowing that i'm a "semi-finalist", but everyone appears to be one.

only other summer opportunity that ive been accepted to is oxbridge, but going there is going to be expensive (even on scholarship), as well as the living cost (*** is up with the exchange rate? god.), so my summer isnt looking good right now. hopefully SOMETHING comes through....

i guess sarcasm doesnt translate well on text.

i guess i'm at a complete disadvantage for this program: i'm asian and am probably considered in the high-income bracket. whatever...

so, what do you semifinalists plan on doing this summer?

i think i'm gonna attend another summer program and/or work

Has anybody gotten in the U of I Lead?

Im asian too.. I figure that my chances would be low as well then..
But, I'll have my hopes up

As an alternative, planning on taking courses in UCLA.... wonderful...

So who has been accepted then thus far (and where)? Are some still waiting to hear from LEAD?

I wasn't expecting several people on here to be waitlisted...

My son made the summer program at U of Mich, and he is white and would not be grouped as low income. So I don't think that is the only things that they look at.

Marylander, I am white, and I actually go to a Montgomery County Public School as well. You can pm if you want to talk more.

Does anyone know the dates of the program at U of Pennsylvania?

Wharton's program this year is from June 29 to July 26.
