How many people actually apply to this summer program?

whatever you do you should apply - LBW was awesome!!!!!

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I know that 60 people are taken, but is the prgram even prestigious?competitive?

It's basically a "pay your way in" program.

Granted, you do have to be a good student... But it's not as competitive as LEAD, for example.

any other competitive business programs? im asian so i cant go to LEAD.

"It's basically a "pay your way in" program."

uh not really...many kids in fact receive financial aid.

People from around the world attend LBW and many are extremely qualified. I think about 250 applied last year and probably more will apply this year. Wtv you do apply cause it's a great experience.

thanks for responding, does it increase chances at penn?

If you are looking for a more prestigious business related summer program, there really isn't much other than LBW, LEAD, M&TSI, and this program that Georgetown has, none of which besides LEAD is free. But it is also only for minorities.

If you are looking for a prestigious program that "doesn't pay your way in", you should look for those in mostly sciences/math instead or perhaps TASP.

LBW is an awesome program, it is selective, contrary to misconceptions. Last year's selection for the guys was very competitive, in the 10%-15% range. Additionally, you get to meet a diverse group of kids who are extremely qualified, some in academics, others in accomplishments.

Really?

Wow, sorry for what I said before... I guess I was one of those who had "preconceived notions."

I knew the LEAD program was competitive, but didn't know that LBW and M&TSI were the same. o_0

yea... on the same note as fatcookie and dieselboy....LBW is not "pay-your-way in." It is probably more prestigious than LEAD or any other program at Wharton/Penn based on objective factors such as SAT scores. The average for LBW correct me if I'm wrong was about 1400 on the old SAT. That number is - once again, correct me if i'm wrong - much higher than the other programs (LEAD, M&T, etc.).

that said...LEAD and M&T are still great programs and all of the programs are equally great at giving high-schoolers a sense of what is to experience Penn though classes and living on campus. I would recommend any and all of these programs.

I did M&T this past summer, and I'm not too sure on the average SAT thing, but it's pretty high. The reason M&T might not have as high of a SAT average as LBW is because it's only M&TSI's first year. LBW and M&TSI are similar though... Lots of guest lectures, firm visits, and other business simulations. But if you want more of a tech-management feel, go for M&TSI, it's worth the money.

Admission to LBW is quite competitive. My S and some others from this board did NOT get in last year. Only 60 kids are accepted. It is KEY to get your application in very early, since it is rolling admissions.

when should I apply for this summer 06'

I think the materials are available around January 1. Get them in as soon after that as you can. You need two teacher recs and a transcript, plus there are a couple of short essays.

As a participant in LBW '05, let me first say that it was a life changing experience =) Every second was worth it and I learned alot, and not just about business. As for admissions, its only getting tougher each year, moreso if you're male. It is an extremely fast paced, work intensive program that does require academic knowledge but also a strong sense of leadership (hence its name).

As for the "rolling admissions" statement, it is only partially true. Only a select "exceptional" few get in on a rolling basis - obviously, if you apply really early, you're up against fewer people to be "exceptional". Not everyone gets a decision through rolling admission (I didnt). Anyways, if you have any questions about the program, I'd be happy to answer them.

What {Zhang} said is def true....M&T had its first year last summer and will only be gaining in popularity as it gets its name out (it also doesnt hurt that it shares the name of one of Penn's most prestigious joint degree programs).

another thing about LBW...your classes are great but your fellow LBWers are even better. i did LBW last summer and one of the guys I was with was even named Young Entrepeneur of the Year or something (I wonder who that would be lol)...the people were pretty impressive needless to say.

Does attending LEAD or LBW greatly increase your chances to UPenn?
