LEAD Summer Business Institute

I don't quite remember what I requested. I just remember UPenn Wharton was #1 for me, and Stanford was #2. Still no word on admittance in the mail. Hopefully tomorrow

Hey, how good were your resumes? I was surprised by the 3.0 and 100 PSAT minimum, because that's a little low. It's not an accurate feel for the calibur of people who get in, which i'm sure is a lot better than that?

What did you guys put? I have a 3.66 GPA and my PSAT was 189 (didn't take SAT by then)
My essay topics were about the music industry and loosening up copyright on songs on suggestion by Steve Jobs (I was confused about this prompt, I wasn't sure whether it wanted my personal opinion or if I agreed or disagreed with the article???) and my second essay was on being Key Club Lieutenant Governor.

I like the requirements because it does not discourage great people who may have struggled in school thus far from applying

1st choice = Stanford
2nd choice = Duke
3rd choice = Illinois (or was it Penn... dun-dun dunnnnnnn)
4th choice = UPENN
5th choice = Minnesota

UW GPA = 3.3
PSAT = 215

essays:

Bears resigning Lovie Smith--I gave my opinion on what they should do (I think it was an either/or situation, but yeah, I cannot say with all certainty)

Outward Bound Unity Project--while we were actually in the woods

for my essays I wrote one about the cost of the Iraq war ( don't ask me how I connected it)
and for the leadership one I wrote about during this fall debate at the capital I helped my team win the championship.
GPA is 3.5 uw 4.4 weighted

Uhhh, my choices? Let me recall...

NYU

UPENN

Duke

Michigan

Stanford

Looking back, I should have done Virginia over Stanford, but oh well.

Do non-URMs get accepted into Lead?

yes
based on pics???
uh and other sources???

uh I think it is just geared toward URM's
in terms of recruitment

bump...hopefully we'll ge tit today.

ActuarialDJ, what was your friend's stats when he got into LEAD? Iono if my PSAT is high enough.

Hoping on acceptance today too!

I haven't received anything today

nadda for me too today
"He" was a girl
IDK

Hey, I participated in the LEAD Program at Wharton last summer and will be at Wharton in the class of 2011 as well. LEAD was an amazing opportunity, it exceeded all of the participants high expectations. Good luck to all who applied!

Thanks Taebubu. I really want to go to wharton for college too and try to get into their 5 year MBA program, though I know it's EXTREMELY selective, so I'll start preparing for that right when I get admitted lol.

taebubu, what were your stats? Like your GPA and PSAT? Just trying to gauge my chances hahaha

Does anyone know how heavy the essays and recs are in the LEAD selection process? The more this drags on the more nervous i get, since this is the only summer program I applied to.

Are all of you guys who are applying black or hispanic?

I am black

My stats were:29 ACT, 4.01 gpa, my class rank was 9/310. I had an AMAZING rec letter from my employer. I am assuming my essays were also good. I think it helped a lot that I am from Minnesota.

Oh yeah and I am Colombian.

lol nope i'm indian/punjabi. but judging from the pics really anyone can apply.

I am African-American...

I wish more youth--yeah, that's us/me--could/would participate in programs like LEAD or almost any other national summer program for that matter

I still talk to my friends I met at Illinois State's actuarial program, MHSSA

We had varied backrounds, and I am not just referring to our races/ethnicities, which added to the experience and simulated "life" in general

I hope none of us, especially those of us who are selected to attend an SBI, take this opportunity for granted
