Leadership Award Questions

Are there any other real benefits to this award other than the actual sum of $2,000?

Also, this sort of confuses me:
"Your application ranked within our top tier of scores, and as such, you have qualified to automatically receive this scholarship without going through the interview round."

But the email also says:
"The Leadership Award is the largest non-academic merit scholarship on the UC Berkeley campus and one of the most prestigious."

I'm grateful for receiving it and all, but if it's not an academic scholarship, why did I get it for just getting high scores? Seems pretty unfair.

This is just speculation…I don’t know what it means by “non-academic”, since it says merit too, they probably just evaluated your application against others, and yours probably scored enough points (maybe a points system for leadership, extracurriculars?) to meet the threshold to receive the scholarship.

Oh okay.

Are there any actual benefits to having this though, other than the 2k?

You could put it under awards in your resume section, not going to help much, but an award is still an award so it’ll still look good
