Leadership in the Business World

Anyone applying for LBW at Wharton this summer 2015?
I really want to do it but am not sure if Im going to be accepted… what are PSAT/SAT/ACT score estimates for people who got in in previous years/applying? What about extracurriculars? Any advice appreciated!

Hi there,

I applied to LBW last year and attended and CC helped me a lot in the process; I figure now is my time to give back.

PSAT/SAT/ACT scores, in my opinion, aren’t all that important. Firstly, they’re optional. I got in with a 32 ACT, no SAT and a 196 PSAT, so don’t stress too much about your scores. There were kids with lower scores, and there were lots of kids with scores significantly higher to mine.

My extracurriculars were highly leadership and business-oriented. They included lots of entrepreneurial contests (and awards/victories), starting a magazine at my school, varsity track captain (with awards for leadership), and starting my own community service club that had a pretty sizeable impact on the environment. I put a lot of time into my essays and talked a lot about my community service club.

My suggestion is to scrutinize the LBW website and see what exactly it is they’re looking for. For example, the website mentioned that the program is for students who want to hone their leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. Make it clear that you already have these skills to begin with and that you will be able to take your knowledge from LBW and apply it to your local community. Also look at what LBW has to offer and why that matters to you. How do the site visits cater to your interests? Why are you interested in business to begin with?

The key takeaway from all this is in the name of the program itself. Leadership. Emphasize this through everything you write/list/show, and you’ll be set. This program essentially wants leaders from all over the world to come together and learn about business. Good luck! If you get accepted, I guarantee you’ll have a fantastic time.

PS. I suggest you choose LBW west as your preferred campus if that’s still an option. It doesn’t seem to be mentioned on the LBW website, but last year there was a San Francisco program and a Philly program. I may be bias, but the San Francisco one had way cooler site visits (Google, eBay) and way better weather.

Do you know how much financial aid one might get if accepted, if any? Say a family income of $80000 and a household of three?

My income is under $30,000 and it still was so expensive that I could not attend.

Ok thanks! You saved me $75. This is so frustrating though. I can’t find one program that I can afford. Ugh… I guess I will try to find a local internship or volunteer opportunity.
