Leaning towards Baylor

Hello everyone. I’m looking for a great business program for me and I want to major in accounting. I am trying to decide between Tulane, Baylor, SMU, TCU, and maybe some others. I want warm weather and a nice networking in the south, primarily in Texas. Does anyone have any info about these schools?

I recently visited Baylor and was extremely impressed by the campus. After me and my parents talked with many people they said that their accounting program has the 3rd highest pass rates on the CPA exam.

My stats are 31 ACT, 4.2 Weighted GPA, top 5% of my class.

Hi,
Obviously you can go wherever you want, but I think you could do much better than Baylor. It’s actually not a very difficult school…they are trying very hard to look better than they actually are. If you want to go somewhere in Texas, why don’t you look at UT (far cheaper AND better than any of the schools you listed). You could probably make it into a UT Honors program with an ACT score like yours. Maybe look at Rice. Every program at Rice will be better than every program at Baylor. You can do so much better with stats like yours. Good luck!

I like Baylor, but I agree with l&c…McCombs’ and Mays’ Honors would probably be best.

L&C – Rice I get, but UT vs. SMU/Baylor/TCU/Tulane becomes a discussion of huge public (with Honors – if OP can get in… it’s 50/50 with those stats) vs. medium private. Access to professors, focus of professors on undergrads, advising, administrative hassles, class size, on and on… the classic discussion. I’ll grant that your post was loud, but far from clear.

Baylor is the largest of the privates OP listed, and has the most obvious religious influence.

SMU has tremendous connections in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area

TCU is sort of a tweener between the two above, and has a friendly vibe

Tulane is just not really comparable being in NO and having a much higher testing student body.

I just found out I was admitted to the business school and I will be attending Baylor!

congrats…

Congrats. I just visited Tulane for the and back first time. I am accepted with a scholarship. Really did not like the campus. Surprised by how run down it looked. Not from the front that was beautiful, but driving through it looked very different from the center. I like Baylor’s campus better, it was in better condition. Hated New Orleans traffic, obviously no where to park. Any suggestions. I know Tulane is higher ranked.

I never heard anyone think that about the Tulane campus. There is construction of a new dorm and of course it is in-between semesters, don’t know how much that might have contributed to your impression. But different strokes and all that. In any case, forget about rankings. That is no way to pick a college. Go where you feel most comfortable. Either school will give you a first rate education, but they are very different otherwise.

As far as NOLA traffic, not a factor since you won’t have a car. The streetcar gets you where you need to go if you cannot walk there.

Congrats…my daughter is a senior at Baylor and has loved every minute there…I should add that my son is at SMU and I am an SMU graduate and their business school has great connections in Texas!

I have heard that a lot about SMU and Texas, Dallas in particular. I suppose that is no surprise, but I have no connection with the schools, the city or the state and I have heard that myself.

I just posted pictures of the Baylor campus.
