Southern Methodist VS Texas Christian VS Baylor

Hello all,
I’m a junior in high school from Tulsa, Oklahoma. I want to major in finance or accounting. I have a Pre ACT score of 27 and haven’t taken the ACT or SAT yet. I also just took the PSAT a second time. What are the primary differences in between the 3? Any input about any of them is welcome.

SMU has the best location in Dallas for internships in business. Between the three, it probably is ranked the highest for business.

I agree with @Zinhead – SMU is considered to be the best for business-related majors among the three. I would venture further to say that SMU is probably the best school overall.

But TCU and Baylor are good schools too, and if you would rather be in Ft Worth or Waco than Dallas, and/or you’d rather watch Big XII athletics, Baylor or TCU could be better for you. There isn’t such a difference in quality that you shouldn’t take fit preferences into account.

I go to TCU, and it’s truly a fantastic school. I have some business friends who really like the program. There are a lot of alumni connections in DFW for jobs/internships. The neighborhood around the campus is one of the wealthiest in the area, and thus pretty safe. Let me know if you have any other Qs about TCU that I can answer! I’m confused on what you mean by Pre-ACT though…

@asaisd My son just got accepted to TCU. I’m worried about what you mentioned… the wealthiest area, etc. I don’t want him feeling like he has to keep up financially with everyone. We aren’t poor, but we aren’t wealthy either. What are your thoughts on this?

The college being in a “wealthy area” has little to do with the students needing to keep up financially with anyone. The neighborhood matters relative to the safety of the area and also for the nearby amenities; the economic diversity of the student body is the issue to research and be comfortable with.

Academically speaking SMU is the best of the three. The school has the best entering student quality, the best paid professors, and the most developed alumni base. Being in Dallas is great because there is always something to do, though people stay close to campus. The job placement is superior at SMU to the three - Most interviews I had I competed directly with students from UT Austin Mccombs. I would look at the common data sets of both schools because it is more difficult to get into SMU and it is a more rigorous academic curriculum.

Do you have a preference between Methodist, Disciples of Christ, or Southern Baptist?

I’m a Baylor student and I love it. I am in the business school, and it’s great. The building is only a couple of years old and has amazing resources. The finance program is very hands-on and both finance and accounting have high job placement rates (personal message me if you’d like the specifics of job placement and salary stuff… I have a good bit of specific data that I do not believe is published online). For accounting, a little over 97% are placed within the first three months after graduating, with finance a bit lower. There is a strong alumni network, and there are lots of events for recruiting and for speaking with former Baylor students that have become very successful, especially within business. You’ll find great resources and professors at all of the schools; they’re all private and you’ll find professors that truly care at all three. I like the location of Baylor because it is halfway between the Dallas/Fort Worth area and Austin. It’s a quick hour and a half drive on I35 for both areas, making it really easy to get to both. Waco is in a smaller town than the others, but it has grown a lot in the past few years and is really cute. It’s got everything you need. It’s got the college town aspect that SMU and TCU don’t really have. I personally didn’t apply to SMU because I really did not like the idea of being in Dallas and I didn’t have any interest in TCU for reasons I probably shouldn’t share here. They’re all great schools, so I would highly encourage you to visit all three to see which one fits you best.
