I'm in my low teens, and I want to be fluent in French in a year or less. By fluent I mean knowing around 80% of French vocab and grammar known by a well educated native French speaker. The best way to learn a language will be to live in the country and immerse yourself but I cannot do that. I will be taking French 1 but that will definately not be enough and I plan on studying at home and listening to French music and watching French movies. Do you guys think it is doable.

doable, but VERY difficult and time consuming.

I have been taking high school french for five years, and I’m nowhere near fluent. assuming you have absolutely no background in french whatsoever, you’re going to need to do EVERYTHING in french. if you don’t have a fluent speaker that you can converse with on a daily basis i’d say it’s almost impossible, just because immersion is so important…

That being said, I have French friends who have taught themselves English by listening to the radio and watching American television. After a certain point you will certainly survive in a french-speaking country, but probably not at the level you’d like.

why do you want to be fluent in such a short period of time?

Because I love the language and 1 year is probably just a drram but I just wanted some input

I love the language and I just wanted some input from people with French experience. 1 year is probably just a dream.

Oops sorry for the repeat

Its almost impossible to become that fluent in a year. I’ve been taking French for 3 years. I try to read French newspapers, listen to French music, have a bagillion books about it, etc. And I work with a nonprofit translating documents. I’m nowhere near fluent. However, with INTENSE studying you could be relatively well off in a year. You will see how complicated it is once you start. Is this your first foreign language?

I’ve decided a more realistic goal would be to read French at the level of someone my age(low teens) within one year. How much more realistic is this goal.

And by read, I mean read AND comprehend.

any input?

anyone please?

Please anyone?
