"least happy students" true?

hofstra was ranked on the list of top 20 least happy students on the princeton review. i was looking into this school but wanted to find out about this first...thoughts?

Well, I currently go to Hofstra, but I thinking of transfering out. If you like ppl with intelliect- this I MEAN this is not the place to go. Hofstra University has fair amount arrogrant snobs who are wealthy and retard (no direction in life or the typical long islander girl or guy), but you'll see less of them each year, hoping that hofstra says what it says increasing their selectiveness . I have to say Hofstra is getting better and might be the next NYU in new york because its raised about 100 millions dollars for new professors. The polly sci department is getting an awesome professor from Westpoint. Second Hofstra is in the process of buying a Hospital, if that comes into place they can start a med program which will put them in top tier 1 or 2 spots, but Hofstra need to get its act together with a more intelliectual reserve student body. I hear all day from just going to class to class, " you want to get high and smoke up." This school is freaken simple to get in, but they will milk you for all you got in terms of money. Please ask any more question if you need to know

I already transferred out. However, I am in complete agreement with the above post.

I would like to also add a note to those who are going to Hofstra U. If you work hard and party hard. You'll definitely find a excellent job and go to a good graduate school after the 4 years of college. The student body competitiveness is pretty crappy, so being in the top ten percent of your class is actually really easy. Like I said in the preview post most of student body is arrogrant snobs who are wealthy and retard (no direction in life or the typical long islander girl or guy) If you have any question about classes, professors, and anything else about Hofstra. Send me message through the college confidential if you need anything.

I would definately like to say that Hofstra does have very happy students. It's those students at Hofstra that dislike certain aspects of the school that ruin the reputation for the rest of us that go here. Students that are unhappy here are the kids who don't get involved, and just want to cost through school and think that they can do that without anything but studying and staying in there room.

That is not true for everyone. I was heavily involved - research assistant, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, community service. Although I was sober 24/7, I went out and had fun with my friends alot, and I still pulled a perfect GPA. I hardly ever saw the four walls of my dorm room.

The unhappy kids at Hofstra are the ones who actually think that the most important thing about college is - GASP! - the education. The students that are unhappy are the ones who would rather pull a good grade on a test than get the free thong on Thursdays at McHebes. The unhappy students are the ones who expect more from a 35,000/yr. education than to spend it passed out in your roomates bed. A Hofstra student who actually cares will find themselves with a limited circle of friends.

Hofstra is full of wealthy Ugg-wearing, BMW driving snobs who feel that their purpose in coming to Hofstra is to get as much partying in as possible before they get kicked out into the real world. I am not saying that everyone is like this - there are many intelligent AND fun-loving people at Hofstra - but I am saying that alot of the kids are. Many kids have the attitude that since they aren't paying, they don't need to work hard. A Friday night frat party at Dublin is probably the only motivation many kids have to make it through the week.

Please don't get me wrong. Hofstra is a good school and I in no way mean to undermine the education you get there. I had alot of fun in my independent major in New College. My wish for Hofstra, though, is that the student body will diversify in the future - that they will be able to attract more students who are interested in the classroom as much as they are in the night club.

Yes, there is a number of students who do fall into the category of your BMW ridin', bar hoppin' Long Islanders. But there is an enormous amount of people who are not in that category and wish that our school was not completely categorized in that way.
I have over 50 friends here who I am extremely close with, and although a few of them are in that category, the majority of them are not. You really do just have to talk to different people, and not just stick with 3 or 4 friends and that's it.
And I understand that even if you are active here at Hofstra, like yourself, you still didn't like it as much as you wanted. But when you wish that our campus was more diverse. You couldn't ask for a more diverse campus if you dreamed one up. Our campus has so many people from different religions, states, countries...Each and everyone of them completely unique.
Your problem with Hofstra was that you closed yourself into a circle of friends, and never opened yourself up to getting to know many of the different people at Hofstra. You are probabally one of the people that give Hofstra the bad name of being a "Long Island" school, and tagging everyone as a Guido or rich little daddies girl.
Yes, I know, just as much as the other person that attends Hofstra that we do have many Long Island students, and we do have students that fall into that category, but they don't rule the campus like you insinuate.
There are so many other people here that make this campus amazing, and well worth every dime that I am spending on my education. I have amazing professors, who have given me so much while I've been here, I have friends that are family to me, and I have an amazing social life, spending times with friends on and off campus.
So for anyone that reads this, you must know that there are two sides to this spectrum. And If you would like to ask me any questions, please post a response.
