Hey guys so I’m really contemplating going back home and attending a community college. I currently attend UCSB and I like it here, but I’m not doing good in any of my classes (not for lack of trying) and I have lupus (immune system problems) which gets worse with stress. I’m afraid that if I stay through this quarter I’m 1) going to make my lupus worse by stressing myself out trying to raise my grades or 2) stay and fail my classes and mess up my GPA - probably never get the opportunity to transfer back into a UC. However if I left this quarter and restarted at a cc, I could save my GPA and work on getting myself back on track and hopefully get into a UC in two years. Thoughts???
The downside is the loss of the money you’ve invested in this semester-- both in terms of tuition and room/board.
But if you honestly think it’s effecting your health, then it’s a no brainer… go home.
Why not call mom and dad tonight to talk it over? They may be able to give you some perspective that strangers can’t.
I am sorry to hear of your situation, but I strongly suggest you don’t take any action without talking to a counselor first. http://duels.ucsb.edu/advising/appointments is a starting point.

A key thing to remember is that if you do not leave in good academic standing then you have special rules that will apply if you want to subsequently enroll at any UC campus.
You need to do what is best for you and your health, but this isn’t the time to get your advising from the internet IMHO. Find the people at UCSB who can help you with whatever you decide to do. People who work at colleges generally are very supportive of the students and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the help you can receive.
