Dropout and go to a JC?

Hey, so this is an unforeseen situation for me. Due to problems incl financial aid and transportation, I’m looking to transfer to a Jc. I’m currently a freshman at ucsb… should i dropout and then apply for jc spring 2019 (will i still be able to transfer to say, csu afterwards?) or should i spend a quarter here and then transfer?

Can’t you start winter of 2019 at CCC?

Have you calculated the cost of dropping out now and enrolling in CCC for winter quarter versus finishing the quarter at UCSB?

Have you already paid for your quarter and housing at UCSB?

Yes, You can either

  1. Leave UCSB, start at CCC and transfer to CSU upon completion of transfer requirements.
  2. Finish quarter at UCSB, then enroll in CCC and transfer to CSU upon completion of transfer requirements.

Have you tried to work with support staff at UCSB to see if they can offer you some additional resources to help you succeed where you are? There are often ways to offer help to struggling students. Please don’t just abandon panic (I saw your username!) without seeking some outside help first.

The only thing way they can really help me is academically and moral support. My problems lie more with financial situations.

I have paid for my quarter at SB. Thank you, I think I’ll transfer after the fall quarter. For a JC, they only have a Fall and Spring semester which is why I said I’d transfer during Spring.

One more question. If I do transfer to a Jc, will I still get financial aid from FAFSA? Would I just have to change my school online?

If you qualify for Federal aid then you would get FA by changing the school to your CC. Remember the CC will recalculate the aid that is needed to attend.

Be sure to communicate plans with UCSB to avoid incurring fees related to housing agreement. Typically there are conditions/fees for canceling your housing contract which could be mitigated by early notification.

Good luck.
