I am a little confused about signing up for classes.
So I looked up the class schedules online,
and I was wondering, do we choose one discussion to attend per week for each class,
or do we choose one discussion per day for each class?

This might be a really obvious question, but we have to attend the lectures for each class, right?

Sorry, I don't really have experience in choosing classes...

Generally, you have to attend lectures or you will do poorly in the class. Some people never go to lectures all quarter, some go to every lecture, and some go to a few, but it mostly depends on the person’s individual study habits and the class itself.

I personally feel very behind/lost if I miss more than a few lectures per class.

I will say this. You’re paying 15k some odd dollars to go here. I highly recommend going to all your classes. I agree with ucsandeigo915, I feel like I’m missing out on something if I miss a class.

hahaha, okay now on a more serious note…
Is there any way i can choose a TA or find out which TAs run which discussions? Cause I looked through the department websites and the best i could find was a general list of all the TAs.

You have to sign up for them, but they aren’t necessarily mandatory. Many are though, so it’s best to always just assume they will be mandatory and schedule them accordingly. And if they aren’t mandatory, just go to them anyway. The TAs are there to help you, not to listen to themselves talk.

I have a confusion about Discussions also.

I am trying to plan my schedule with the Class Planner and i noticed that Math courses such as 10A, 20A, 20B etc… only offer at max about “70” students to take discussion classes with btw. 2-8 students max per discussion time.

Now how is it possible for each of 200+ students in a Math lecture class to take a discussion… class, when there is not enough space? <–This problem is making my schedule difficult to plan out.

^They’ll open more spots for freshmen once freshmen enrollment starts on the 31st or whenever it is. But otherwise yeah, that wouldn’t make sense.

haha i didn’t expect so many people replying to my post =)
Thanks everyone
I have another question about freshman seminars.
How should we incorprate them into our schedule?
How many seminars do average freshman attend?
