Legacy?

I am not too familiar with the idea of legacy gaining you an upperhand in the admissions process but I would like to know if FSU considers it. I'll be applying for Summer 2012 as a transfer student and want anything that is goign to increase my chance of acceptance. My mom went to FSU for graduate school and earned her Master's and I also have two unclse who went there for undergraduate studies?

It is taken into consideration but is way down on the importance list.

Bummer. I was hoping it would balance my GPA. ;)

Thank you.

I think being a legacy gives you one point in the admissions rating.

There are a LOT of disappointed legacy applicants, however.

Well its something! I’ll take it. I’ll be relying more on my transcripts and test scores of course so I don’t end up in the “LOT of disappointed legacy applicants” group. ;)

footbolfan, where are you transferring from? :stuck_out_tongue: You should be able to get in with an AA degree as long as you’ve got a good GPA, meet the prerequisites for your degree seeking program, :stuck_out_tongue: I was able to get in for the Spring semester of next year as a transfer student.

Good Luck!

@corbis
First off: CONGRATULATIONS! Thats really awesome!

I’m currently enrolled at St John’s River State College as a first semester Freshman, then this Spring I’m going to Sante Fe College… THEN… Hopefully this summer I’ll be able to get into Florida State as a Sophomore! FingersCrossed*

You can check my grades, etc. and chance me if ya like:

People always say it helps a bit, but I don’t recall ever seeing a place to enter where my parents went to college, etc. on the application. However, when I’m walking to my apartment after class each day I pass the president’s house and see a giant sign that says something about an FSU legacy scholarship coming soon.

When I applied, I recall seeing an place where you could list any relatives that went to the school. Since, I had none, I did not list anyone.

I remember it being on the application, but I really don’t think it really truly matters. It’s essentially just brownie points, and I believe that there might be a few legacy only scholarships.
