Legality of those Essay Writing "services"

so there are a bunch of websites that you can pay to write your college application essay(s) for you... and I have no interest in using one of these websites because I have integrity, but I had some questions out of curiosity:

1) Are they legitimate? Do they actually write quality essays?
2) Are they even legal?
3) If they are legitimate and legal, why aren't they getting more press? I mean, wouldn't a lot of desperate teens be willing to shell out the money to help them get into the college of their choice?

Here are some examples of what I am talking about:

My Admission Edge
Custom essays writing service
customessaywriting.com/

services that will actually write the essay for you are illegal, however it is perfectly fine to ask others to read/edit/proofread your essays for you

I highly doubt they can write quality essays because college essays are highly personal and online websites probably won't produce the same results even if they are legit.

I’m not condoning this practice, but how are complete strangers in a college admissions committee supposed to know that the personal stuff written for you isn’t true?

They probably have a couple good essays for each topic and send the same ones to all their customers.

Unless there’s a copyright violation, there’s nothing illegal.

But I think you’re conflating “illegal” with “unethical”

If you represent an essay written by someone else as you wrote personally, it is misrepresentation. If you conspired it with the real author, it is conspiracy.
