Legitimate places to search for scholarships?

After receiving a financial package from my first school I heard from, I am in desperate need of scholarships. I am basically being given nothing.

Where can I search for scholarships? I have a 3.75 GPA Freshman-Junior year and a 3.9 once my midyear grades are added in (4.33 gpa this year so far) and a 29 ACT…

Any suggestions of what kind I can definitely get? Thank you!

If you haven’t been given enough by your school, you need to pick another school.

Maybe you’ll be able to cobble together some local scholarships; but if you’re left with significant expenses after your school’s offer, those scholarships are not going to cover that gap. The big dollar & renewable outside scholarship deadlines have already passed. Plus, most scholarships have a need component (not sure on where you fall on that spectrum), and even if you’re low income/high achieving, almost all outside scholarships are insanely competitive by the numbers.

The bottom line here is that if you don’t have enough money now, there is no realistic way to get enough money through outside scholarships by the time the bill comes due in the fall. You’re just going to need to pick another school if you can’t afford this one.

Are you open to applying to other schools that will give you scholarships?

University of Arkansas Monticello (tuition and room)
Troy University (tuition)
plus full rides to several HBCUs if you are open to them: Tuskeegee, Alabama State, North Carolina Central, Prairie View A& M, Florida A & M

The best aid comes from schools. If your parents can’t afford the package you’ve been given, you’ll have to choose another school. Did you apply to a financial safety? If you tell us your budget and what you’re looking for, we can make suggestions.

I would agree with what everyone has been saying so far. I would definitely start looking at other schools within your range that provide good financial aid (private colleges usually offer 95-100% need based aid). Also, look at the app called “Scholly.” You put in your info such as race, gender, gpa, etc. and it matches you up with possible scholarships that you can apply to. These scholarships can range anywhere from $1,000 to $50,000 and if this is your dream school, this might be worth considering.

How much will your parents pay each year?

Did you apply to an instate NJ schools?

how much will your parents pay?

I’ve seen some of your posts and you seem like such a sweet and polite young man, I feel badly that unless your parents will pay, you may end up with no affordable schools.

As others have mentioned, there aren’t outside entities that at this point would give you much/anything. Even if it were a few months ago, it would have been difficult/impossible for you to get much from outside scholarships.

What schools are your financial safeties (schools that you know that you can afford?

Your list isn’t right for someone who wanted/needed merit scholarships. :frowning:

Can anyone here suggest some schools that would still give this student large merit? I think he wants to be a business major, maybe finance?
