Lehigh needs 2012 tax returns by feb 15th?!

Is anyone else stressing out about this? Both my parents and I just got our tax dcuments and such from our employers last week!! My parents wont have their tax return forms and everything by next week thats crazy I dont understand what Im supposed to do.
Is anyone else freaking out? I cant believe they except to have them by the 15th! Most other schools dont need them until March 1st ugh

I am definitely freaking out, too. My mom just received her tax forms on her investments today so there’s no way we’ll have everything processed by the 15th. I’m going to call Lehigh on Monday… If I lose my scholarship / grants / work study because of this I’ll have to back out of my dream school! Not too happy about this…

Right! Both my parents are so mad and the fact that they need it so soon is ridiculous. I’ll also be calling on monday. Ugh. My moms calling the guy who does all our taxes but the chances he can get in done in like 3 days are next to nothing

Oh and don’t forget, there’s another form you need to fill out by the 15th also. It’s Lehigh’s own financial aid document. I’m glad to know that you’re in the same boat as me. I think they’ll be more lenient with this deadline if multiple people have the same issue.

Right thanks for reminding me! Haha good luck! Hoping after all this I actually get in!

Lehigh seems to be considerable when it comes to deadlines. My FAFSA came back saying there was something wrong with it (sadly, I messed up somewhere) and this was on February 2nd, so I sent Lehigh an e-mail explaining what happened and they let me send in my FAFSA late. So if you explain your circumstances, I think they will be lenient.

And the Lehigh Financial Aid Document - is this what you’re talking about: http://www.lehigh.edu/~infao/forms/13_14/2013-14_Financial_Aid_Application.pdf</a></p>

I’d bet Lehigh is aware that Some of the new IRS forms are not even avail. yet. I called Penn and told them ,they said no problem to send what I can and when pkg is complete send the rest.

So glad I read this thread. Had no idea there was an additional document. I submitted fafsa and CSS weeks ago. Will have to look at this now. No way will taxes be done by feb 15!

Yeah my parents have already submitted the FASFA and CSS although theyll have to revise the FASFA once their taxes come back. And they did the extra lehigh form. Theres just no way the person who does their taxes can have it done sometime next week.

Linymom -

I know what you mean, I had no idea either that there was a third document until my friend told me last week. I figured other people would probably also not be aware so I thought I’d share what I know. I’m still so worried about this February 15th deadline though…

So I just called Lehigh Financial Aid. I think this is COMPLETE BS that they need your 2012 tax returns by Feb. 15. Really annoyed with the school. Need to talk to DS about this later. I want this school OFF the list now. I am absolutely FUMING about this.

Tax documents didn’t even arrive here till last week. Who does Lehigh think they are. REALLY TICKED OFF.

Annoyed that DS went out of his way to write extra essays for this school.

What did they say when you called them?

My parents just called our tax guy and hes going to have them all done by friday hallelujah Im so relieved

Here’s what they said:
Can estimate 2012 taxes for the form that’s due on Feb. 15. But for consideration for fin aid, must have 2012 taxes to them on Feb. 15.

So I told them that’s not happening and asked what happens if I get it to them on March 15. She said that people who get it in on Feb 15 have priority. If there’s money left later on, then that will be allocated to people who get their forms in late.

Feb. 15 is completely unrealistic. Whether I knew about it last month or just learned about it his weekend.

Really turning me off to the school…

I am not a tax expert, just discussed all this with my husband this weekend. But I thought the higher Ed credits and a few others were not going to be approved by congress until after that date. If you have other kids in college, those will effect taxes. Poor planing on their part.

I’m wondering if the person Linymom is talking to @ Lehigh is giving her bad info. I think you need to talk to whoever is in charge.

The person my mom talked to said theyre “technically” due Friday but they dont start reviewing everything until Monday if those extra two days make any difference

Some of the forms to allow filing 2012 tax returns are not even approved yet.For filers using those dox they CANNOT file yet. Surely Lehigh knows this???

Rebel: Thanks for the posts. I will fill out the form and email it to them by Friday, using estimates based on 2011 tax return. I should be able to find out from my accountant next week when he will have it for me. I have no problem with 100% verification but their early timing is not reasonable. When I get my taxes back, I will call them again and get more (better?) information.

I am so happy that this is not DS’ top choice school (although it is in his top 4). And I don’t think they are typically generous anyway. This just puts a damper on the whole thing.
