Hi guys, I am facing the same problem with 1040 forms. Part of it is available on 2/15 which is the deadline date.
So should I send in my parent’s W2 form and Lehigh’s financial aid application before the due date and send in the 1040 a few days after or should I send the whole thing in at once a few days after?

Send whatever you can in by the due date

Don’t blame Lehigh, this is not their fault. The IRS did not expect Congress to act so late in extending the Bush tax cuts, and they can only work so quickly to remedy the situation. The education credits were initially expected to be ready when everything else was on January 30, but there were issues with the computer programming, so they delayed the forms. Even so, the taxes can still be completed - just not e-filed until the 14th.

Lehigh is not the only school that wants everything by February 15th - many of the most elite colleges want them by then as well. Do the best you can, and get them in as soon as you can. There are still several forms which won’t be available by the 15th, and still other people who can’t file because they still have to wait for income documents (from trusts and partnerships, for instance). They have these deadlines so they have leeway for those who can’t send them immediately. If they had a March 1 deadline, almost everyone would wait until then to send everything.

I had also spoken to Lehigh’s financial aid office about this and they said to submit a draft 2012 tax return and then when we have them finalized that we should resubmit them. Of course this entailed having our accountant do our taxes without having all of our dividend statements and then he will have to make the necessary revisions once we receive everything. I’m sure he will be charging us extra this year.

They have a list of deadlines clearly available for a reason.

You are supposed to do things early, even if it means filling out the forms with estimates.
The sheets can be edited, but handing them late is worse.

I also discussed this matter with them and they responded that as long as I submit my parent’s tax return, W-2, and schedules submitted that is fine but I should try getting the return done ASAP and upload the final copy. With the draft, make sure that it states draft on the front page.

I agree. It was very difficult getting taxes done, when 1099s didn’t come in until well after January. It was also a lot of work completing the additional forms, and if one is self-employed, having to complete the self-employment form.

Trying to fax all the papers over has been a nightmare. Theres something like 30 pages we have to send over and it keeps failing. Ughhh

30 pages?
mine was 7 - 1 W2 sheet, 2 1040 sheet, and 4 pages of lehigh’s FA Application Form

Use the Lehigh Financial Aid Electronic Dropbox. you can send them a pdf of the scans you made in a secure and fast way

Yeah we had my parents tax returns, mine, the lehigh supplement, all the w-2s and all that stuff, the business/farm supplement. And I would’ve used the drop box but since our accountant had to email us everything to get it on time we had to print it out and sign it for it to be valid so I didnt want to rescan everything to my computer

lol wow but still 30 pages is a lot… must have been a pain for you and your accountant to do all that work.

Haha tell me about it. Cost $54 to fax it all too. If I dont get in I think ill cry

Uhm…How STRICT are they about getting the form in on time…?

I hope the dropbox will tell them i submitted it in time. I sent it in on friday at 4:46 right after their office closed.

hey guys are we supposed to do the Complete and Submit the 2013-2014 Lehigh University Financial Aid Application? i didn’t get accepted yet but are we supposed to do this or is it only for students that already got accepted? this school is making me stress so much for financial aid. my parents don’t have their 1099 form so they can’t even file the tax forms for 2012

Any student applying for financial aid had to fill out the Lehigh University Financial Aid Application (prospective and admitted). They said that you can make a draft of the tax return, but they want something since they know that most people cannot complete the tax return by the deadline. However, I don’t know how we are expected to make a draft if we don’t even know the figures of our income, but I’m not knowledgeable about taxes so maybe it’s just me.

By the way, I sent in half of my parent’s tax return a couple minutes past the deadline for the dropbox and they still picked it up, and I sent in the Financial Aid Application a day after the deadline and they picked that up from the dropbox too, so being late might be okay.

@LINYMOM I’m sorry I cannot respond. I tried to only to find out I didn’t meet the minimum post requirement to respond to private messages, but thank you anyway.

I called financial aid office today and they were very strict about the deadline. I had to do a draft since ours is complicated. Hope this doesn’t negatively effect anything…

If I don’t have the tax return yet am I supposed to fill out the Lehgh Financial Aid form (I have a draft of our tax returns) or do I wait until the actual tax return comes in? We still don’t have all of our documents to even file…

It depends how long it will be until you get your tax returns. If itll be over a week id say go ahead and estimate
