Lenovo and iPad 2 for College?

Hi, I am currently shopping for computers for college, and I am looking at a Lenovo laptop

T520: with an i7 processor (2.7 ghz 4mb L3), 4gb DDR3 RAM (1 DIMM), Bluetooth 3.0, and Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 3x3 Ant Lan Adapter

and an iPad 2 (16gb + Wifi) and I have several questions.

First of all, I have heard people say that iPads are wonderful for notetaking and others say they are awful. I would like to hear some opinions from people who have used them preferably, and I will add that I plan to have a bluetooth keyboard and a case/stand to use in class.

Second, I am going into Chemical Engineering, and I hope that the lenovo can last for all four or five years and still be able to handle new applications. This seems to check out with me, but I would like an opinion on this as well.

Finally, I can afford this setup, but if anyone knows of a good netbook or tablet that is cheaper than $560 and can stand up in terms of user friendliness, I would love to see. To clarify, what I want out of an iPad is something that can be a multimedia tool (music and videos) on the go, and transition quickly and efficiently to a note taking device. I am not talking about better specs, just better flow.

personally, i think tablets are horrible for note-taking, unless you have the keyboard accessory, which then makes it pointless to have a tablet in the first place. But if you really want a tablet then you should take a look at the asus transformer or the acer iconia tab, they’re in the $450-500 range
Just about every netbook is cheaper than 560, so that would also be more comfortable for notetaking
