less chance for nursing?

I am pretty positive i'm gonna be applying to pitt but i was wondering if it is harder to get accepted if u apply with different majors.. For example i have been thinking about nursing and if i apply to pitt i would most likely want to apply for nursing cuz it is like well known/good for that..But would that give me less of a chance of getting accepted if i applied for other majors i am interested in (neuroscience, psychology)? here are some stats

SAT: 660 Math 590 Critical Reading 650 Writing
(this is the 2nd time i have taken them, i got a 1150 last time compared to 1240 this time)

You're fine. You'll get in no problem.

You certainly will get in no matter what major you choose. You might want to be careful if you are between a major in the Nursing School and a major in the College of Arts and Sciences. It may be easier to go to nursing and switch to A&S, rather than the reverse, if you change your mind. However, I don't think that you will get to try out too many different areas as a nursing major, as they have their own curriculum. Engineering is like that too.

yea i am still unsure about what to do because i still would want to explore other options but nursing is something i would want to do also.. Is there any way to major in nursing and minor in something? Like I dont know if it would be able to fit into my schedule.

Nursing at Pitt has a minor in fitness that you can get fairly easily. If you would want to minor in something else it would be much harder since you have to take 16-18 credits every semester just for nursing. There is little room for electives (5-6 credits). If you would want to minor in something other than fitness you would either have to have taken most of your general education credits like psych and sociology and statistics before you start there or plan on taking longer to complete your degrees or take all your minor requirements in the summers.

As far as your AP classes go you can get credit for them, but none except possibly American History (and I'm not even sure about that one) will go toward a nursing degree and Bio may go as an elective. Pitt does not take AP chemistry for the nursing chemistry because they combine 3 chem classes into one just for the nursing students. The only math class you need is statistics. I will know more once my daughter signs up for her classes on Tuesday. She will find out which AP classes transfer toward classes that are needed for the degree. I am sure about the chem class though because we spoke to the nursing school about that already.

If you like neuroscience and psychology you could always be a psych nurse or a neurosurgery nurse. There are so many fields that a nurse can specialize in especially with advanced degrees.

I agree with lkf. It would be easier to transfer from the college of nursing to the college of arts and sciences if you didn't like nursing than the other way around. They only take about 100-120 nursing students a year.

Don't know if I've been any help to you, but good luck to you in your decision.

Gaining admissions to the nursing school is not a given. The nursing school admits a small percentage of qualified applicants. Howefver, once you are in the nursing school to transfer out is easy. It is not an easy task to transfer in. The curriculum is designed so that each class remains together in most classes.

Yhe curriculum is very tight. There aren't many options for electives. It is difficult to obtain the fitness minor. Classes are scheduled for nursing students and you need to fill the gaps(very few) with necessary requirements(english, stats, psych, pub speaking) so you don't really have time for the minor, unless you take many, many credits or attend classes over the summer. The nursing schedule is tough with difficult classes, and many labs that are required and are time consuming. Nursing students study very hard!!! The nursing school is highly ranked and regarded throughout the country. It is a wonderful program. You must be dedicated and prepared to work often while other majors are out having fun in Oakland.
Apply to the nursing school, you will be glad once you are admitted. Good luck! You have excellent credentials!

thank you everyone this helped me a lot!
