Hi-
I was curious as to what my chances were at Pitt’s school of nursing, from my understanding it’s a pretty selective program to get into. As of now they sent me a letter saying they want to wait to decide until they see my midterm grades.
Gpa: 93.2
ACT: 27
SAT:1250
I’ve taken many APs such as Ap calc, Ap Chem, Ap gov, Ap Lang, Ap US, Ap world
-I’m also involved in a lot of activities although not sure how much Pitt looks at this
-varsity soccer, varsity track, VP of student council, treasurer of class, drama club, work 15 hours a week, coach soccer
I know most likely seeing as it’s a competitive program that fills up quickly asking for my midterm grades isn’t a great sign. However, I wanted to get others opinions on my chances
Thank you so much!
I wouldn’t give up hope. Last year there definitely were kids who were admitted after getting a mid-year request, but I’m not sure of the specific major.
Were your mid-year grades good?
Pitt’s nursing major looks to be pretty much a direct admit program and they admit less than 200 each freshman year so yes, it does look highly competitive.
Have you shown some genuine interest as well? Toured, emailed your regional rep?
Yes I’ve toured and am planning on touring again. I’ve emailed Pitt various times but not my regional rep. I definitely will if it could improve my chances though! I wanted to do an interview as I’ve started volunteering at a hospice home where I’ve learned lots about nursing, but from my understanding Pitt doesn’t do interviews. I was also accepted into Duquesne’s nursing program but am unsure about the quality of the program, especially compared to Pitt.
When we visited last year, we were told they get ~1000 applications for 110-125 seats. They accept ~ 330. The average SAT for nursing admissions at the time was ~1320. Did you complete the short answer questions? That is where you can discuss your volunteer work. Did you apply early?
Did you hear back yet?? I just got waitlisted for nursing
