Less People Getting Admitted?!??!!

If you read the Insider Blog, it says that less people are getting admitted.. which is understandable as I read the blog and whatnot. But is anybody else really really freaked out?? I feel like I can be kissing any chance of admission goodbye as my stats were pretty borderline was it is... just trying to relieve some stress and find strength in numbers, haha

oh man down from 35 to 25%. Guess i have to live in the temple praying for the next month :(

great- phoenix university here i come----well at least not in real space

FEWER people... gosh please speak English next time

omg I is so done with that SAT writing crap

lol

Wow, chlor... calm down. I guess my use of the word "less" means that I'm not speaking English anymore? Somebody has his/her panties in a bunch.. and let me guess.. you'll pick apart this sentence for grammar/spelling/punctuation too? This is the internet, not a report for school. Thanks

"Though LESS will be admitted, we have evaluated amazing students these past few months and are quite confident we will be able to shape the best Class of 2010 possible."

^ this sentence is from the hopkins official blog (
http://hopkins.typepad.com/).

.. find the red flag?

"Less" in what sense, as in numerically less than the year before, or percentage-wise less than the year before. That sentence does leave a bit up to the imagination...

I feel like a huge dork analyzing one sentence so much....I should be a Lit Major.

are fewer people being admitted or is there a lower percentage. i heard that apps went up at schools across the country, so maybe the same number of people are being admitted, but there is a lower acceptance rate b/c of the influx of apps.

Less people, fewer peoples, fewer persons?

According to the Hopkins Insider, last year's applicant pool consisted of 11,277, and last year's acceptance rate last year was 35%. Doing the math, ~3,947 were accepted last year.

This year, an applicant pool of ~14,000 is expected, and the predicted acceptance rate for this year is 24-25%. Doing the math, ~3,360-3,500 will be accepted.

I guess that means that fewer applicants will be admitted AND the acceptance rate will go down as a result of the influx of applicants.

yes, this is true, for two reasons:
-the acceptance rate will go down because of the inrease in applicants from 11,000 to 14,000.
-the amount of people admitted will go down because of the amount of people accepted during the early decision round, therefore taking place of many regular decision spots.

I must say I enjoy the speculation that my one sentence in the Hopkins Insider blog has generated. Though you all have tried to analyze the numbers, I must admit you are all wrong. I say that with confidence, because I know that the numbers are not final yet, and will not be final for a number of days.

I can let you know this:
(a) the overall acceptance rate will drop probably to 24 or 25%
(b) the percentage of students admitted RD will drop
(c) the raw number of students admitted RD will drop - significantly from last year

Why is this -- well consider all these factors:

(1) The applicant pool is up 23%
(2) The ED population was quite strong, so there will be more ED students in this year's class
(3) JHU over-enrolled the class last year, which means we need to re-examine our yield ratios
(4) JHU is just cool!!!

(sorry the last one is just my own personal opinion)

Man....I have NO chance....Sux0rz...I was a borderline candidate at best, and with all of this info out, now, I'm screwed.

if you have no chance then I am utterly hopeless.

Wow. I'm really not getting in. JHU still rocks. I won't be bitter. It just sucks to be applying to college this year. Everything is getting way too competitive.

don't lose faith people!! i applied ed, and when i heard the number of applicants for ed went up like 35% or something, i was like....uh oh, im not getting in....but i still got in. so it's ok, if you deserve to go, you'll be fine. and if not jhu, there's gonna be another college out there for you. good luck people!!

yeah... when i read that i was not happy at all. jhu is one of my top choices so i hope i still make it... i guess i will find out in two weeks with the rest of you. at least i know that i already made swarthmore so i have another school to go to if jhu rejects me. but good luck everyone!
