let's be realistic- do I have a chance?

HI, so I have applied to nine schools so far and I want to hear your opinions.
To be honest, I think my list is not thought out well, with just a lot of high reaches.

EARLY ACTION
1. My number one was Georgetown, but I didn't have an interview and my sat2 scores were awful (math2 700, ush 620, physics 570... man I shouldn't have started cramming the week before; but I'm not going to send these scores to anywhere else) so basically I think my chances are pretty low.
2. University of Michigan
3. UNC-Chapel Hill
4. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

REGULAR DECISION
5. Vanderbilt (my number one; it's right up there with Georgetown)
6. Rice (my parent's dream)
7. Northwestern (why not)
8. Emory (does anyone know the specifics about oxford and emory college?)

and I already got into Baylor, which was my just in case- back up school.

I'm planning to major in Biology with a pre-med focus.

ACT-33 (English 34, Math 33, Reading 33, Science 33)
GPA- 3.802 (UW) 4.361 (W)
rank-23/357

Freshman yr: 4 honors
Sophomore yr: 4 honors 1 AP
Junior yr: 4 AP 2 honors
Senior yr: 4 AP 1 honors

AP scores: Macroecon (4), Bio (3), Calc AB (5), lang (4), ush (4)

Honors: AP Scholar with Distinction, IL State Scholar, Prairie State Achievement Award

Activities:
Theater (9) Soccer (9)
Academic Team (10) Link Leader (10, 11)
Tennis (JV10, Varsity11, 12) Key club (9, 11, 12)
NHS (inducted like end of Junior yr, mostly senior yr thing)

Work: waitress all four years
Volunteer: library (but not many hrs)

I'm an Asian female in IL. As you can see I don't have many activities/ no leadership and my scores aren't that high...sigh

They're all hard for me I know but please tell me your honest opinion. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

What is your question about the difference between Oxford and Emory? I know stuff about both but I don’t know if it will help just let me know though!

Definitely being Asian can help but then again hurt you so badly. As being an Asian, no matter which college you are applying to the dark and unspoken side of things is there is a much higher expectation from colleges for us and I’m not making this up or getting this from a random source it’s statistically proven especially for ivies. Another thing is you probably will have a good chance of getting into southern schools because you are from the north, but the down side is they place a higher expectation for northerners, and you are a Asian girl. The 3 in the Bio will not count for any of the schools as a side note. Your GPA is very high but it also depends on the rigor of your high school. Your ACT’s were very good and I think your good on those. Your SAT IIs could’ve been better in some subjects, but you took notice on those already. I’m going off on what I know from my experiences and from what I know from my school when I tell you this so keep that in mind, I am from MA and my high school is one of the top in the state. Based on all the data from my school it would seem that all your schools are reaches but my schools GPA is weird and out of a 6.00 scale weighted. From getting into Baylor with those states You have a very good chance of getting into Rice I believe since Baylor is better especially for Med and Sciences, Emory you may have trouble getting into because of the high Asian population, Illinois should be no problem, U Mich may be stretching it a little along with Georgetown, Northwestern, and Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt you may have a higher chance than the other three since it is a southern school like I mentioned above. I believe the last four for you should be reaches. Good luck and I’m sorry if I wasn’t much help!

I know Emory is the main campus and Oxford is a little away and has a small liberal feel to it, but i was wondering if applying to both would be negative in any way; like for example, would emory not consider me or are the applications looked at completely separately?

yeah i wasn’t expecting any credit for the 3
but THANK YOU SO MUCH your response was definitely a BIG help! thank you!

Hm, don’t believe the poster who thinks Baylor is better than Rice; Baylor is a strong school but not in the same league as Rice (in addition, are you Baptist? It’s not required, but it helps the experience since there are religious obligations/doctrine classes.)
Oxford is a smaller campus, so that for two years you’re in a more close-knit, intellectual environment - it can feel a bit more pressure-cooker though. There are frequent shuttles so you’re in acollege town and you can spend weekends on the big campus. Emory is a research university so the classes are larger, there’s more of an emphasis on sports than at Oxford (although Emory isn’t sports- crazy like, say, UGA, so it’s all relative).
Umichigan will cost your parents 55k, so what’s your parents’ budget and have you run the Net Price Calculator on EACH of these?
UNC-CH is as hard to get into from OOS as an Ivy, so unless you have a hook or are a legacy (I’m guessing not), cross it out.
Have you applied to UIUC early enough to have a shot at Honors College (did you get in already)? If not, get to it immediately.
Why don’t you add Tulane since you like Rice and Emory.
What do you like about Georgetown? That it’s in DC? Then apply to GWU and American. That it’s excellent in IR? Then add Tufts and Macalester to the previous two. That it’s in a big city? There are hundreds of possible schools. That it’s Jesuit/Catholic? Then you have LMU-LA, Boston College, UEvanston, UScranton, UPortland, USeattle, etc. Do you want moderate colleges in the South? Beside Tulane, you could add Davidson and UMiami. Look into those, run the net price calculator on each website, and/or let us know what you like about those.

I’m not Baptist, to be honest, I only applied to Baylor because they sent me a free application that only took seconds filling out.
my parents budget is in the low-mid range and we ran the NPC on each of them yes. they’re all affordable, with Michigan being the most expensive at about $20000.
I already applied to UNC-CH ): I did not know at all that it was so hard to get into ops! I visited the campus and I really liked it.
Yes, I applied to UIUC by the priority deadline.
I liked Georgetown bc of the location, campus, and after the visit, everything just I don’t know I fell in love. I visited GWU too, but I did not like it at all.
I’ll probably apply to either Tulane or Case Western University as safeties.
Thank you MYOS :)

Why do you want to be a doctor?

Apply quickly to both for better merit aid, and demonstrate interest (ie., fill out the “join the mailing list” form, email with questions when you have some - questions the answers to which are NOT on the website, etc.)
If you want a campus in DC, there’s American.
I would encourage you to consider Macalester - coolest neighborhood in the Twin Cities. Dickinson would be another match for your stats with strong science, but it’s not urban (in a cute small town but 30mn from Harrisburg which is not a nice town in my opinion).
If you’re not Baptist and filled out the application to Baylor “just to see”, Baylor is not a safety and probably wouldn’t be a good fit.

Might look at Holy Cross-very good school 1 hour from Boston. HC has fantastic pre-med program with amazing med school alumni network. Also Holy Cross is need-blind(meets 100% demonstrated financial need). Great school spirit.

Your list of schools is very reach heavy. Only UIUC seems like a match. Your stats are good, but most of those schools are reaches for everyone. You might want to consider applying to a few more match or safety schools. Baylor doesn’t seem to really meet the definition of a Safety, because it isn’t a school which you would really want to attend.
