Let's get something going here!

My D received a small scholarship $3500, Presidential Scholarship?, with stats OOS, 30 ACT, 3.74 GPA UW, 3.9 GPA W, 13% class rank in a fairly tough school. My D really likes the idea of going to school in Charleston, but has much better scholarship offers from other good state schools. As I have offered to give her the unspent remainder of the college fund after college that may make her decision to go elsewhere. I guess that the draw of Charleston means that they can lure students without the generous scholarships of other schools or maybe that's all the money that they have. Good luck.

Hmmm...thanks, dggt. I guess what I was really hoping was that they would offer the in-state tuition rate even though she is OOS, which I have heard that they sometimes do. Unfortunately, I believe they are going by my EFC results which would indicate I can pay, rather than her merits.

D rec'd presidential, full tuition, we are OOS. The notification came back in December with the RD admission decision. Admission to the Honors program came a few weeks later. Stats: 1460/1600, 2100/2400, 4.0 uw, 4.6w, 12 total AP's(6 this year), all 4's and 5's on AP exams, class VP, varsity team captain in two sports, all-county in one. too much more to list. Admitted to several schools with nice merit money offers, (but none from Chapel Hill). D likes the idea of CofC and will attend the scholars weekend this coming sunday and monday. Its all about the money for me, but the scholarship offers were made long before they knew my EFC, thank god.

With her stats, I am surprised that she isn't going to a higher-tier school, with merit money. (I really like C of C, don't get me wrong.)

Sunshadow,
She likes CofC, so who am I to argue? Actually she likes lots of places, and has been offered lots of money, but at the expensive places, 3/4 off of too much is still alot! (you can quote me on that). Also, there are tons of smart kids out there, so no money from UNC, and Richmond didn't even ask her to compete for their scholarships, not at all. Its a strange world indeed, thats why she applied to 16 schools. Unless you are going to HYP or one of the serious tech schools (in a tech major), borrowing for undergraduate education is insane.

i am from charleston too.... and like any other city there are abd parts... it seems to change really quick... you will be in a nice part and BAM your in the hood

Is CofC a politically active campus and if it is, what political party does most of the student body support?

Have any newly accepted students gone to visit in the last couple of weeks? What was your experience? DD and I are going over April vacation the week of the 16th - 20th. Was it all that you had hoped for or not?
Thanks.

Sunshadow,

How did your's and your D's visit to CofC go? Did it meet her expectations?
S has chosen to attend.

Bump

How does everyone like CofC? I'm a Yankee from Ohio and I'd love to be down in Charleston right now, its -20 wind chill here now.
