Let's get to know each other!!!

Hey guys!
I just got in to W&L ED1 and I have seen some other people post the same. I don't know about you, but I would love to know some people before I get to Lexington! So... Lets get things started!

I am Shannon, from Birmingham Alabama. I am at Hoover High School and I love theater. I have been in love with the stage and musicals as long as I can remember. I also enjoy chemistry, history, and shopping... Ok i don't know what else to tell you about me... Hey at least I tried, right? Please reply if you just got in and make me feel less ridiculous :)

Thanks!

Hey Shannon! My name's Summer and I got into dubyuhnell ED1 as well :) I was so psyched when I found out! My friend is thinking of applying RD so I hope she does and that she gets in because I go to school in the north and I don't want to be the only one! Are you on Facebook?

Hi Summer! Its great to hear from you! Thanks for replying! No, I havent really gotten into the whole facebook thing. I did livejournal for a while and by the time facebook got popular at my school I had kinda given up on keeping up with it all. Its just too hard for me to find the time to update it and all. Plus most of my friends use lj anyway so its easier to keep up with them all there. I know how you feel about being the only one, I dont know anyone who is applying from my school. But, its kinda exciting to know that I'm striking out on my own and all. It should be fun! What are you involved with at your school or for fun?

Hey what's going on? I'm Will from Texas and I got in ED1.

Texas?........we'll definitly have to meet haha.

Umm well I'm gonna be playing lax for the good ol Generals. so I do that a lot. I'm also into human rights stuff w/ Amnesty International (I did my essay on human rights) and play a lot of other sports. How about you, do you guys play any sports?

Hey my name is Ryan from Chicago. congrats to all of you- its gonna be a sweet four years!

I'm a swimmer. I also got in ED1.

man i hear the swim team is really good, congrats.

chicago??? guess it isn't turning out to be a VA kid haven like i thought!

actually, I was born and raised in richmond,VA, lol. i just went to high school in chicago.

oh that's cool. i go to boarding school too.

Actually, only 14% of undergrad students here are from VA. And that is counting permanent residence, so it would count people who are not actually from VA but consider their address here in Lex their permanent residence.

Hey, are any of you thinking of doing that Leading Edge pre-orientation thing? Dima, do you recommend doing that?

Absolutely - although I did not personally do it, everone I know who did participate in the program very much enjoyed it.

Do you think the service one or outdoor one is better? I would do either but in terms of type of people you meet, etc. What have you heard?

And what are other people planning on doing, if either? I was leaning more towards service.

You will meet great people on either trip, it's all a matter of personal preference.

I'm Emily from Mechanicsburg, PA...in between Hersheypark and Dickinson College. I also got in ED1 and would love to talk to anyone who did too..so send me an IM or something. i'm so excited!

JGGDuke-- you'll LOVE the swim team. Some awesome dudes on it. SumSum-- I did the Appalachian Adventure and loved it. I made some really good friends on it and do not regret it one bit-- in fact, I'm going to be a trip leader this summer. While volunteering is nice, you can really do that anytime, but it's rare that you're able to take a week-long backpacking trip with your college buddies. We faced absolutely insane conditions last year and it seemed to bring us all together really well. If any of y'all have ANY questions about anything, or just want to share your uber excitement about W&L, feel free to IM me at Ben jammin Hur. Congrats, guys!
