Lets say...

Lets say I am applying for a uc to uc transfer to Ucla but am missing some of my major prereqs. Would I already have gotten auto-rejected earlier due to my lack of prereqs?

Also, I was invited to compete for the regents scholarship, does that have any relationship with my lack of major prereqs? What I'm trying to ask is if they already looked at my app, saw my lack of prereqs, and still nominated me anyways? or is it all automatic based on gpa?
-Thanks

Slow down, You are trying to make too many correlations… and the ones that you are making are non-sequitor.

If you missing pre-reqs then there is a higher chance of rejection… however this depends on the department you are applying.

If you were invited to compete for a regents scholarship, then that is a good thing. It is a sign that they want to pursue you.

I don’t think that is not 100% based on GPA, more like 85%… there are still other factors that are considered.

If you are talking about UCLA, the regent scholarship does not mean you are going to be admitted. The department that handles that award is completely separate from admissions. Whether or not pre-requisites will cause a rejection depends largely on the school and the major you’ve applied to. As an example, if you are Pre-Psychology at UCLA, and you are missing pre-requisites, it is not likely that you will be admitted (words from a UCLA counselor himself). Generally the trend is: the more impacted and competitive the major, the more pre-requisites will matter.

@freetofly112 This is where I’m confused. Why is it I can just enter UCLA under a much less impacted major and just switch over to an impacted one after I’m accepted? I mean, I plan to apply under Gender Studies and switch to English after I get in. Everyone keeps saying that’s fine, but how is it fine if so many can’t get in under the route of English? Why isn’t everyone doing this?

@back2it‌ there’s actually a list of majors that you can’t switch into after you transfer to UCLA. I don’t think English is on that list but a lot of other impacted majors are (for example, the life sciences majors, the political science majors, economics majors, psychology majors, etc.) As English might not be on that list, you might be able to switch into your preferred major but for a lot of people, we only have that all or nothing direct path.

Ah, I see. Sorry to hear that for you guys. :frowning: But also glad I’m not in that boat. I still can’t get over the fact I can do this. I keep thinking someone is going to pull the plug on this idea, lol.

thanks everyone for your help! also, since i am at another uc right now, i plan on finishing almost all my missing major prereqs during summer. Do you think admissions will take this into consideration?

Best of luck to you all! @BAmbrosia‌ as I understand it UCLA specifically does not take summer prerequisites into account however, if you have taken any related courses at your home UC, they may look upon that favorably.
