Does RD come out on March 14th? Did they publish a designated date or is this a guess?
@baller55 for the last few years they have released results on 3/14, but no college has released official results.
Question for anyone applying for financial aid: on the MIT financial aid page, it says that tax returns and the typical IDOC documents should be submitted by 2/15, but when I go onto my IDOC dashboard, it says that MIT’s documents are due on 3/1. Is anyone clear on this?
Hi how about scholarship / study abroad programs? I’m from the Philippines
@crazycatlady87 I would get the docs in by Feb 15 or asap after if you can. The earlier they are in the more likely you are able to get a financial aid package upon mid March acceptance. If you are later than that it may take longer to get the financial aid package therebye inhibiting your decision process.
@crazycatlady21 Just send them in by Feb 15. They leave some extra time because some small number of people get their tax forms a bit later and everything.
Does mit send likely letters? If so, when?
No
Hi! I’ve applied to MIT under RA from Australia, and was wondering if anyone else from down under has also applied?
Also, I thought we could maybe share some info like in other colleges’ threads (and also to get an idea of who is applying)…so here’s me:
Domestic/International: International, from Australia, already graduated
SAT scores: n/a
ACT scores: did it twice; composite 32 both times, English 29 & 30, Maths 34 both times, Reading 36 & 32, Science 30 & 33, English/Writing 28, Writing 9/12 & 36/36 (I was so surprised!), new ELA 33, new STEM 34 (yep Caltech is one of my “reach” schools)
SAT II scores: Maths II 790, Physics 730
GPA: n/a (school doesn’t calculate them, but all A’s)
Class rank: definitely top 10%, but they don’t release specifics
Classes (or APs): Physics, Maths Extension 1 (medium level), Maths Extension 2 (highest level), Chemistry, Economics, English Advanced (normal)
School: private
Awards: major ones are Distinction in Australian Physics Olympiad, Silver in da Vinci Decathlon and Duke of Edinburgh silver (yeah I know not so impressive, but there weren’t that many opportunities)
Research: nothing published (as far as I know things like that don’t happen in Australia), but was selected in a school research program and conducted mentored research in relatively and quantum mechanics for 5 years
Extracurriculars: founded a “student government” IT subsidiary and was “president” for 2 years, competed in selective school choir, debating, school newspaper writer and editor (these are the important ones)
Volunteering: weekly at Sydney Observatory and at school IT department
Intended major: Physics
Financial aid: no
Family income: 300-400k
Other US schools applied to: Caltech, Princeton, Columbia, UC Berkeley, UCLA (all RA)
BTW I’m really really new to College Confidential, so sorry if this post isn’t appropriate.
@anandrishabh1 Woah you have done A LOT! Your scores and grades seem to be fine considering you’re international, and your ECAs and sports are on point! I’d say you have a good chance, but then again MIT turns away so many talented and qualified international students every year, so it’s definitely not guaranteed. I think you definitely have a better chance than I do (my post in the one above yours and our scores are basically identical, but I do a lot less ECAs than you), and even if the odds don’t sway in your favour, I’m sure you’ll go on to do great things where ever you end up. Good luck, and I hope we get in!
Are y’all ready for what comes 15 days from today?
I’m kind of sad that it’s a leap year because there’s an extra day to wait before the decision…
I can already feel the rejection letter :-S
Are people pretty sure about 3/14 being the decision day yet?
@whata777 MIT historically releases on Pi Day, so yes.
@whata777 pretty much sure, but MIT hasn’t technically released an official date yet.
Is there a high likelihood of acceptance in the Ivies, if you got accepted to MIT?
@SD2020 …admission into MIT is /completely/ unrelated to admission to ivies.
Especially when a lot of them have lower acceptance rates and have different admissions processes.
The Ivies have lower acceptance rates because MIT doesn’t get a lot of “what the heck” apps. They purposely have their own essays and application. When Columbia switched to the Common app a few years ago, their applications soared. Also, MIT attracts kids who are very strong in math and science and are interested in STEM. The applicant pool is extremely focused and strong. Getting into MIT should make the applicant competitive for most Ivies and Stanford. The problem is that with RD acceptance rates around 3% for some of these schools, there are just too many highly competitive applicants for the few spots remaining.
Thanks @Falcon1 for the response. I am just getting nervous as the release date gets near. I’ve been accepted to almost all my targeted UCs as a Regents scholar but I got rejected by my “top” school Stanford. I thought I was very competitive and I happen to be also a legacy. It makes me nervous for my chances with the other top colleges.
