Hmm...depends on the major. I'd say that around the 25th percentile range or above would be high.

"TAP wouldn't make a difference? You've got to be kidding me."

That is what she told me but she also had all of my stats right in front of her. I think she meant because of my specific stats it wouldn't make a difference either way. I have a 3.94 with all prereqs done and close to 80 units. Counselors say a lot of things though. :)

of course if you have a 4.0 and all your major requirements and tons of ECS and a stellar essay than ya, TAP WOULD MAKE NO DIFFERENCE

but if u have a low gpa and have NO CHANCE of getting into UCLA then TAP can save your life!!

hmmm.
IF my GPA is a 3.84 with all pre-reqs completed and plans to major in Business Economics at UCLA, would you say TAP is not needed for me?

Honestly I don't know.

If that's the case...then yes.

Ok, now I agree with you Sweetny007 :]

dhl3, business econ is a hard major but i still think ur pretty well above the average GPA so i wouldnt waste time with TAP

I Decided To Do Tap For One Reason: In The Event Of My First Choice Major Being Rejected (because I Did Not Complete Major Requirements (not Offered At My Ccc)) My Second Choice Will Be Considered (for Which I Completed Maj. Re.)

Also If Tap Programs In Some Ccc Don't Involve Honors Courses, Isn't That A Disadvantage? The Courses Don't Show Up As Honors In Ur Transcript!

i typed the above post in caps, but instead only the first letters of every words are capitalized. this is unimportant.

Transcript is not the only way to show that your are in TAP.

UCLA will call your school during winter, and three times during the Spring: Beginning of the semester, toward the middle, and in the end, to check your status in TAP.

so having no "honors" title in the transcript doesn't really matter cuz all UCLA cares abotu is whether you are in TAP, not whether you took honors course or not.

when do u send tap certification?

As soon as you complete it.

TAP that ass.

Although this may only apply to my ccc,

Honors certification for the 2007 application cycle will begin in early January through approximately mid-February, and will be done on a one-on-one basis, by appointment only. These appointments will last approximately 30 minutes, where all of your Honors coursework is reviewed and reported on a form that will go directly to UCLA. It will be done in-person only. We will certify you based on work completed work, work in progress, and work planned for spring. Courses planned for summer will not count toward Honors certification. Details about how to make an appointment will be coming soon. Although your transfer application will be handled according to whether or not we certify you in January/February, the notation that you are Honors Program Certified will not be made until your final spring 2007 grades are posted in July and all coursework is verified.

I have 20 units this semester, 9 of which are honors courses for the TAP. I can personally say that the extra courseload is not as hard as everyone says; you just have to stay focused and get them done in due time so as not to conflict with your finals.

i think taking honors for courses related to ur major is probably more enjoyable than stressful. for example i took world history to 1500 and had to read three ancient accounts on alexander the great before writing a historiography. at first it was an inferno going through them (arrian's, plutarch's and curtius's accounts). but at the end, it was SO MUCH WORTH THE PAIN because i enjoyed history and my intended major (art history) is related to it. it almost made me want to read other ancient history books like Histories or The Campaigns of Gaul.

for honors freshman composition, it IS a little painful, but very negligible.

so do u start tap certification before winter break or after?

ya im doing a paper for honors for english and im relating some readings we did to some economic principles (my major is econ) just to make it interesting, and the teacher was down for that.

UCLA will call your school around February, which is the beginning of the Spring semester, to confirm if you will be TAP certified by the end. At this time, you will have to sign some stuff with your Honors program (I don't know how it works for other schools but this is how mines handles it) to confirm that you will complete your argreement by the end of Spring.

to be TAP certified is hard!!
