Let's think of ideas for new AP courses.

AP Investing (teach the stock markets, bonds, banking, and saving; could help kids earn some money and overcome fear of investing; develops citizens with a mindset of saving over consumption)

From my local community college, I would recommend:

AP Precalculus and Trigonometry (many college bound students need this knowledge much more than they need calculus and most colleges would give credit [not Ivy league])

AP Accounting (great for business majors; also teaches the basic principles of managing money in a business or organization)

AP Differential Equations (more useful than multivariable calculus, AP CALC BC would be prerequisite, applications in applied math, physics, engineering, biological models, demographic models, etc.)

AP World Religions (to teach a global view and encourage understanding and acceptance between cultures)

For fun, I would like to see AP Study Abroad (Study culture and language for a year, communicate with a pen pal, the exam is based on 3 month summer trip at the end [exam in August]) Destinations (Only one country per year): Europe, Far East, Middle East, South Asia, Africa, Latin America? Many colleges have programs like this, so credit would be easy to award as a language and culture class. Maybe this should be just a 3 month addition to the AP language and culture classes?

ap philosophy

AP Linear Algebra would be a much more useful course than the current AP Calculus.

Ok I’ll probably repeat b/c I don’t want to read through many pages, so…

AP Chinese History (As I am Chinese)
bring back AP Italian
AP Sociology
AP Modern culture and media
AP Technology (how to create phones, computers, etc.)
AP Russian

That’s all I can think of right now.

Org Chem is too important to be taught in high school - it’s a key class for premed and it really wouldn’t be appropriate, because there are situations in which a 5 can be earned largely by luck and not by knowing the material comprehensively =). And you never know, they might look through some of the books for research purposes etc to see how some of the problems were solved by students. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised at all if that were the case.

@HLZ, i believe AP russian is either available or is under construction

my ideas;
AP sociology (like a mix of psych and human geography)
AP anatomy/health (would look good for premed)
AP portuguese (as important as german!)
AP anthropology (very interesting
AP geometry (geometry is my best math section and i find it fascinating)
AP arabic (they have russian, chinese, etc but not arabic yet?)

My dream schedule of only AP’s would be:

 1. AP Political Science/Politics
 2. AP Linear Algebra
 3. AP European Literature
 4. AP Anatomy
 5. AP Neuroscience
 6. AP Modern History
 7. AP Italian
 8. AP Comparative Government 2 (A harder class than the one they already offer)

My dream schedule:

1) AP Ecosystem Analysis
2) AP English- Poetry (Dante, Shakespeare, Milton etc.)
3) AP Physics D: Astronomy (Calculus based)
4) AP Calculus 3/Differential Equations
5) AP Biology C: Veterinary Science
6) AP Chemistry B: Potions
7) AP Lunch
8) AP Human Geography B: Global Politics and Economics of the 21st Century

I’m actually surprised AP Sociology isn’t established yet… you have all of the other social sciences, (except Anthropology) and it seems like a pretty common/interesting course…

AP Nature Call

I think they like to pick classes with a certain amount of rigor involved for AP testing.

I thought you have to take this to graduate anyway, and don’t you go straight into calculus in college? Anyway, there’s no point offering this because it would downgrade APs, as the easiest one by miles and one pretty much everybody would take.

AP LIFE, plz?

AP Sexuality…

;)

LOL jk, idk

AP Last Minute Cramming (Standard & Express Editions)

Has anyone thought of AP College Confidential?

AP Oceanic History.

I would take this, if pirates were involved in the history.
It could be about how oceanic travel influenced modern life, or colonialization, etc.

AP Sociology

AP Interpretive Dance

AP Underwater Basketweaving

AP Sports - AP players are better than varsity

AP Spelling

AP Potpourri - A test about anything

I would love more AP histories - though at some point, AP World History would become redundant. Once you have AP tests for Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, religion history, and the US, what’s left for APWH? Australia and Antarctica lol.

AP’s I would like to see made available:

Science:
-AP Astronomy
-AP Anatomy and Physiology
-AP Oceanography
-AP Geology

Social Sciences:
-AP Sociology
-AP Anthropology
-AP Asian History
-AP African History
-AP Middle Eastern History
-AP Latin American History
-AP World Religion / Religion History
-AP Philosophy

English:
-AP Media and Journalism
-AP Linguistics
-AP Theatre / Dramatic Writing
-AP Creative Writing
-AP World Literature

As you can see, I’m not a math/art girl in the slightest. ;D

Seriously though, I’m surprised that AP Philosophy has NOT been made available yet. It’s a very common college course, and I’ll bet it would be pretty popular, too.
