First off, I don’t mean this to come off as snobby or grade-grubby. I got a letter in the mail today from the office of the president that basically discussed why my application was attractive. Do all EA admitted students get one of these? Just wondering
I got one! I was really flattered, as at first i just assumed it was a generic mailer but there was an entire paragraph about the theatre program at georgetown, which was arguably my most devoted/notable activity. Not sure why/how I got this, would love to hear from others. What was yours about?
I got one as well! Public speaking specific, mentioning the Philodemic Society and Mock Trial. Pretty fitting, since I’m heavily involved in PF debate, but I thought georgetown would’ve mentioned their stellar debate team. It’s probably a paragraph applicable to many admits.
@haz1299 thats what I was trying to figure out too! The paragraph seemed pretty generic, as well as talking about offering a theatre major (even though that’s not possible for me since I’m in McDonough) though i can’t imagine how many theatre-interested applications they got. I’m really curious to hear what other people got, and in the meantime I can appreciate georgetown really personalizing their outreach, something that so many schools don’t have the resources or care to do!
@c0llegeb0und haha agreed on all accounts! If I had to guess, I would say that the applicants who have a specific theme that can be pulled through on their application are given the same letters. Those that don’t have one may be given a more generic letter and some may be more personalized for unusual/unique apps. Kinda amusing that you were given one about a minor that isn’t possible for you! Perhaps it’s a university initiative that doesn’t go through the individual schools.
Hey @haz1299, I just got mine as well, and I’m also a PF debater. My letter mentioned similar things to what yours mentioned, so I assume that they find particular parts of the application they can apply various letters to. Regardless, it’s a very nice added touch!
@2016senior2020 Sounds about right. Nice to meet another PFer - I absolutely love debate!
@c0IIegeb0und yeah mine was about publications, which is very applicable to me. I’m assuming that the message is generic. But do you guys think that everyone involved in publications, theater, etc. gets a letter? Or only a few?
That’s what i wonder as well, @cymiranda. If they were only sent to those that really had an outstanding activity it would kinda make it more special, but with only 829 accepted students EA (they mentioned this in my letter, that’s insanely low considering thats over all four schools) a more or less personalized letter was probably sent to every accepted student. I’m just interested to hear more about the variety of letters they sent!
Mine was about Model UN and the International Relations Club at Georgetown. Also mentioned some of the jobs held in the International Relations field by Georgetown alumni.
@er2016 Hopefully mine is that too I’d love to do MUN at Georgetown!
I received one also, and being more of a stem person, the paragraph talked a bunch about the research opportunities at Georgetown, if anyone was still wondering about the variety of letters they send out. I thought it was very thoughtful of them!
I believe that every EA admit gets one! I got one that detailed my dedication to softball (which i wrote an essay on) and discussed how my commitment to the sport has instilled in me dedication, discipline, and that i should be commended for this. They then talked about how i represent the ideal at georgetown of academics and athletics.
I think its a really nice and personalized touch they do, unlike that of other schools, where they tell you a specific thing they really liked about the application.
