Letter from the President

I was admitted RD to SFS and got a two-page letter today from John DiGoia, the President of the University, congratulating on my admission and academic and personal accomplihsmnets in HS as well as stating that the admissions comittee had been "particularly impressed" by my involvement in Model UN at my school over the past four years. It basically then went on to sell the school, tell me about the International Relations Club at Georgetown, and close with a I hope to see you hear next year line.

Has anyone else gotten a letter from DiGoia? Do they mail out a ton of these things to make everyone feel special or was it legit? haha. I was already planning to go to SFS, but it's always nice to have an extra little shove toward the school.

i got it too, but i don't think it was just a token letter... i've done speech and debate pretty intensely throughout high school. it talks about how impressed they were with my public speaking career, and how the "mock trial group and gtown philodemic debate society have a long tradition of excellence in national debate competition." stuff like that.

since our letters seem to be different, it doesn't look like it was a massive thing they sent out to lots of people. it looks like they took time to individualize the letters a bit. which is nice!

that's interesting...it seems like each person gets one tailored to their own interests...I got one talking about my community service involvement and the programs they have for that

I got that letter too, sometime between Dec (admitted EA) and February. It was about Model UN as well, which I have been heavily involved in. Whether everyone or no one else got one, it was nice.

well I got one the other day, but it was about crew? I guess they preferred my athletic accomplishments rather than clubs or academics, although the more I think about it, were they all tailored to whatever we wrote about for our most important extra cur activity? I wrote about crew so it would make sense that they would try and impress me with their crew team's stats.

yeah i wrote my essay about how i've been a cheerleader for ten years, and how i want to cheer for georgetown, etc., and my letter from the president was all about gtown's cheerleading team...even if we all got a letter, it's nice knowing that they're not all generic

yeah, mine was about my international experience. They talked about the study abroad programs that Georgetown has. Its nice to know that they know that we are real people. Its cool that they make individualizd letters

mine was about my public speaking and mentioned the mock trial and philodemic debate society as well. I liked the concept of sending out individualized letters, though some of us on here seemed to get similar ones

mine was about a social justice center they just created and their close relationship with the Washington DC zoo so I can continue my research.

Pretty sweet.

hhahah maybe im going crazy but i swear these letters are scented!

^haha

Mine was about my artistic accomplishments, and he listed all of the art classes I can take at G-town. I think it's so sweet how all of these letters are personalized. That takes a lot of time.

Okay so mine talked about their choir and drama...I've never done either! My letter was really generic and I just gave it the once over but now that you all say it was personalized makes me wonder.

I got in EA and Georgetown's sent tons of personalized stuff. They sent me a Christmas card saying they hoped I could join Georgetown's Hoya Blue fan section next year (yeah... I wrote about watching high school basketball in my essay). But ya, they've sent probably five or six letters (a bit more often than once a month) since I got accepted in mid-December. It's nice that they're taking the time to do all this.

Mine was about my experiences as an Eagle Scout. They talked about how much they value a student who is a natural born leader and how they look forward to seeing great things from me next year. They also talked about the premedical opportunities available to me because I have prior experiences working at the hospital. Wow, I am amazed that they take so much time.
I cannot wait to hear more!!!

Haha, mine was about football, and how my participation in football allowed me to develop teamwork skills and leadership potential. Ha

Yea the letters seem pretty generic...I got the same letter sabrina and babytrojan because Im a policy debater and my essay was about my experiences! But, its still a nice gesture.

Mine was about class government and political activism... a pretty cool gesture.

even if many people get these letters, its nice of them to slightly tailor it to each applicant

mine talked about my student council activities and the GUSA (gtown univ student association)

I think they just have like a billion templates for every possible extracurricular focus. They talked about my commitment to journalism and publications and how I could intern at the Washington Post and USA Today.

i think it's so sweet of georgetown to mail all the accepted applicants about their accomplishments! i've never heard of any other university doing the same thing. gtown sent me a letter about how they were impressed with my community service efforts over the last four years and how community service opportunities are never-ending at the university. all i can say is, damn, im so excited. i hope to see you all at georgetown next year- go hoyas!!
