As a parent of a Hamilton ED1 applicant, we received a letter 5 or so days after the app was submitted giving us a lay of the land. It also had a paragraph towards the bottom mentioning the phrase “manage expectations” about getting in.
Can I assume every ED1 applicant gets one of these ? It would be a very sketchy behavior if they targeted such letters after giving apps a glance. I am just curious and over-thinking as usual.
As an ED1 applicant, I haven’t received that kind of letter yet, but I really think the reason solely is that I’m an international applicant.
I hope other domestic ED1 applicants would chime in and give some (more valuable) insights about this. However, I don’t think Hamilton would take the effort to compile a list of likely-rejected applicants and send that letter to every single one of them.
I concur with the above. Hamilton’s goal during that brief amount of time would not most likely be to screen sub-par applications for special advice. Hamilton is more likely recognizing the narrow clearance between their ED1 notification date and typical RD application deadlines, and has chosen to briefly counsel all applicants to be prepared, if necessary, for full and complete applications elsewhere. However, also as stated above, I recognize you are looking for more specific assurance.
As an ED1 applicant I received the same letter, and while the school is my reach school. I am almost 100% certain that the letter is sent to all applicants. It is very non-specific about acceptance or rejection, and I wouldn’t let the letter worry you or your child.
I was just curious and not looking for any official responses… My son has submitted some other applications already but has not sent in the scores for them yet since that could be done should he “need” to since they will be RD. We sit and wait with fingers crossed.
Just following up on this thread I started. My S got deferred ED1 but just found out on 3-18 that he was accepted. He is very excited. He has to decide between this and Kenyon College as his two LAC options (and some non LAC options ) . It’s going to be a fun month of soul searching.
