Letters and Sciences Interim Advising

Your first choice major is a Limited Enrollment Program (LEP) with restricted space and additional, more competitive requirements for admission. Because you have not completed all requirements at this time, you have been admitted instead to the Letters and Sciences Interim Advising Program (IAP). You will find this program of great assistance to you as you make the transition to the University of Maryland. The IAP advisor will help you identify your remaining requirements for your intended academic major. Your advisor will also assist you in choosing an alternative major to study at the University of Maryland.
I am currently finishing my last gateway course for the business school (Accounting 2). Does this mean I am guaranteed acceptance once I pass this course and send in my transcript? I have to confirm my enrollment before I find out about the business school so this could be a problem if I have to choose an alternative major. Thanks in advance.

I am a spring transfer by the way.

Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed acceptance into Smith School of Business. Unlike other LEP (limited enrollment programs), even internal transfers to Smith are still competitive. Since you are in the process of completing the final gateway course prior to matriculating, I’m not sure how that would (if at all) be taken into consideration. You may want to call the advising office to inquire. However, you need to understand that the phrase “additional, more competitive requirements” means exactly that. Acceptance is not based on just completion of the gateway classes, but also gpa and other factors. So, the best thing you can do is to call the advising office.

Thanks for the response. I guess I’ll just keep my grades up this semester and hope that there’s space for me in the LEP after I send my transcript in late December…
