I know that Brown has a policy where students can opt to have no letter grades, and only have letters written by professors expressing the student's qualifications, etc. in the class.

I was wondering if any other top colleges do this and if there are any advantages/disadvantages to going this route. Thanks.

A force against that, which has had some schools that tried to move away from "grades" as it were, came from outside (business and other grad schools). System is set up to ask for a gpa. So it can be problemmatic not having them. Sounds good, but some times the practice does not work with the theory.
