Grades are unsatisfactory?

Hey fellow '09ers. Today I got a letter from the office of admissions about my final high school transcript, her is a little insert from the first paragraph:

“We have reveived your final high school transcript and are concerned by the decline in your grades this year. As you remember from your acceptance letter, we expected your academic performance to continue at the same level, blah, blah.” I got one freckin C in physics. It’s the end of senior year, give us a break. I had all A’s then one C in physics in my last semester, only because I was gone for 2 weeks looking at colleges and got really behind. Now there saying due to the decline in my grades (1 C) they will notify the dean of the college and my high school counselor.

Did anyone else recieve this letter? Should I email Annie Cappuccino, the senior associate director of admissions, who mailed the letters and give her a piece of my mind? High school is over, what was the point of this letter besides letting me know that my grades suck and I’m a bad students.

Is Brown worth my $?

did they say there were any consequences? Theyre not rescinding, are they? If not, just do whatever the letter instructs you to do, and if this means nothing, do nothing... The point of the letter was probably just to reinforce that Brown has high standards, to let you know that it's not okay to slack, and that such a dip in performance should not become the norm.

That being said, it is fairly common for third term seniors to live it up and slack a little (or a lot), and im sure that Brown understands that to some degree. Dont call and give them a mouth full, cuz you dont wanna burn bridges before youve even gotten there. Dont let this one letter transform youre whole outlook on Brown's "worth." Just make sure to kick academic arse when ya get there in a month!...=)

One C...that's harsh. I was almost in the exact same situation (C in physics) but luckily my school has ridiculous grade inflation known as BS extra credit.

My HS told me that if Brown sent me a letter like that, they'd fight for me. The letter is not final. Your guidance department can easily work something out. Don't fear....

dammit i have 2 C's

You know what's odd is that over at the livejournal community, someone posted another letter from Cappucino. This person also said that they had received only one C, but their letter was much harsher and mentioned possible withdrawal of their acceptance. hmm...

Wow that is horrible. dd got a C 2nd semester AP CalcBC but no letter. She got 5 on the AP exam tho. Yikes! That would scare me off.
