im planning on applying ED to cornell to there college of Arts and sciences as a prospective chem major. i was not planning on getting a letter of rec from my chem teacher (only had him one year), but rather from two humanities teachers i know very well, and get along with great. should i go to my chem teacher instead?

Good question, I would like to know this too as the social studies aren't so great, and I am probably going to get a rec from a Chorus techer and a Math teacher. So on the same line, is it OK to get a rec from an arts teacher (ie Chorus) if I am not planning on going into any music in college?

I think it would be helpful. When I was applying to college as a prospective neuroscience major, my GC told me that I really should have a science recommendation.

Consider using one good humanities teacher that can comment on everything (character and academics), one science teacher (that may only be able to comment on academics), and one character reference (a coach, activity leader, etc) that can only comment on character.

drummerdude, I would look for another core-academic rec in addition to your math teacher. I think it would be fine to use your chorus teacher as a character rec, but it would need to be supplimented with something a little more academic.

i would go with the chem teacher, unless you think they will write you a bad letter. it is always better to have a rec in your prospective major, and you def. want letters from teachers in different subjects.
