Letters of Rec/Visiting

I plan to visit Austin in a few weeks and familiarize myself with the city. I am currently fulfilling my core requirements at a (Texas) community college, and I do not plan on transferring until next Fall, but I would like to observe the campus beforehand, if possible. If I were to show up, could I take a tour this early in the process? And if nothing formal is available, may I simply walk the grounds?

I have earned eighteen hours so far (4.0 GPA as of now), and will have completed fifty by the end of the Spring semester. If I can maintain at least a 3.8, is is pretty certain that I will be admitted into the Liberal Arts program? I am going to study English, and my essays are usually pretty decent.

One other question: when applying, do my letters of recommendation need to be more recent? I ask only because I may request one from an instructor this Fall. But perhaps it would be more advisable to wait until Spring?

Thanks in advance, guys.

No advice, guys?

If there is no tour on the day you visit, you can stop by the admissions office and tell them you want to do a self guided tour, and they will give you a map of the campus. There are campus tours most days, though, I think.
